In a recent report<\/a>, former scout Mick Brown stated that Manchester United are set to begin talks to land Aston Villa<\/a> keeper Emiliano Martinez. Brown said,<\/p>\n

\u201cMan United have made it clear they would like to sign Martinez.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ll take whatever they can get for Onana, and then they\u2019ll make contact with Aston Villa and see if they can get a deal over the line.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s seen as a huge upgrade on Onana so they\u2019re prepared to take a hit to get things moving.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf Man United could swap Onana for Martinez tomorrow, they\u2019d jump at it.<\/p>\n

\u201cMartinez is in his 30s now, but he\u2019s a very capable goalkeeper and they\u2019re not concerned about that.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe only issue as things stand is that they need to move Onana away before they go for Martinez because they don\u2019t want to end up with both on the books.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re waiting for a bid to arrive so that they can accelerate things and start speaking to Villa.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor now, it\u2019s just what they would like to do, not something they\u2019re able to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Martinez\u2019s Impressive Form In English Football<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Martinez enjoyed a decent run of form at the West Midlands club as he put in a string of impressive displays for them in the Premier League. The 32-year-old made 53 appearances for Aston Villa last season, conceding 61 times and keeping 16 clean sheets in the process across all fronts.<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old remains one of the best keepers in English football. Martinez distributed the ball relatively well after completing 78.7% of his attempted passes in the Premier League last season (stats via fbref.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Should Manchester United Boss Ruben Amorim Snap Martinez Up?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Martinez has been a safe pair of hands in between the sticks for the Villans over the past few years. He can use his quick reflexes to make a few solid saves at the back for his team.<\/p>\n

The Argentine talent is a solid handler of the ball as well and can use his strong 1.95m frame to his advantage when coming out to collect crosses and loose balls inside his penalty box. He is an accurate distributor of the ball and has got a wealth of experience in the Premier League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Martinez would undoubtedly be an upgrade over Andre Onana at Man United<\/a>. He would bring more quality to Ruben Amorim\u2019s first XI and could help the Red Devils compete for a European spot in the Premier League.<\/p>\n
