According to information from Football Insider, Mick Brown, former head of scouting at Manchester United and Blackburn, revealed that the Gunners’ management are internally discussing the possibility of activating Eze’s release clause, set at £68 million. Crystal Palace are not willing to negotiate below that figure and are confident of maintaining their position. Brown stresses that Arteta wants to give his starting eleven more attacking spark, and Eze would fit that role. However, he points out that the final decision will depend on a thorough analysis of scouting reports, the player’s real value and the priority compared to other targets.

He said: “Arsenal’s interest in Eze isn’t a surprise. As we’ve said before, he’s a very talented player, and any team would love to have somebody of his quality because he can be excellent. It’s difficult to know what Arsenal are going to do and where they’re going to look. If they want Eze as a left-winger, they should forget about it because that isn’t his position. But if they are going to sign Eze, they’ll have to make the decision soon. Palace aren’t going to accept less than his release clause, everybody knows that, so it should be a case of they either pay it or they don’t. I think Arsenal are looking at a few targets, and they need to decide which one they want. That will come down to looking at their scouts’ reports and judging the value for money. If any team wants Eze, they’ll have to pay the asking price, and if they don’t, they’ll miss out. From a Palace point of view, they’ll be happy to keep him if they don’t cough up the money, and I’m sure they’ll have plans in case he does leave.”

Opinion:

In our opinion, Eze would fit in well if Arteta clearly defines where to use him. Tactically, he should not be forced into a pure winger role, because he is at his best between the lines, playing as an attacking midfielder or even a playmaker. The English player can alternate in that left “8” role, giving Martin Ødegaard some breathing space when the Norwegian needs a creative partner.

In addition, his ability to break down tight defences with dribbling and through balls would offer solutions against teams that block the Gunners in the opposition’s half. Many will say Eze is expensive, but the market is relentless, and quality comes at a price. Arsenal need not only talent, but also players with personality to withstand the pressure of fighting for the Premier League and competing again with authority in Europe.

Eze, at 27, is at just the right stage of maturity. If Arteta manages to polish his moments of disconnection and surround him with teammates who understand his football, the signing could become a key to opening doors that remain closed today. It is not a minor gamble, but it is one that shows ambition.

Arsenal continue to be active in this summer transfer window.
