Speaking on the Inside Track<\/a>, journalist Pete O\u2019Rourke claimed that Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> are in the running to recruit Burnley defender Maxime Esteve this summer. O\u2019Rourke said,<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a good player, Esteve \u2013 I\u2019m not surprised the clubs are looking at him.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverton showed a lot of interest in him as well, now Tottenham are being mentioned as contenders for a signature if he leaves Burnley this summer.<\/p>\n

\u201cSpurs did try to sign him in the January window when he was doing so well; Burnley don\u2019t want to lose Esteve, and they\u2019ve put a \u00a350million price tag on his head.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think Spurs would go near that level to try and sign Esteve, but Burnley are in a really strong position to negotiate here.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s under contract until 2029 and they can demand a substantial fee because of his contract \u2013 that price tag will probably scare off most clubs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would be massively surprised if Burnley were to cash in on him in this window, unless it\u2019s an offer that\u2019s too good to turn down.\u201d<\/p>\n

Esteve\u2019s Impressive Form In The EFL Championship<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Esteve was a solid presence at the heart of Burnley\u2019s defence in the previous campaign. The French talent participated in 48 matches for his current employers last season, scoring one goal in all competitions.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old proved himself to be one of the best centre-backs in the EFL Championship recently. Hence, it is no surprise that Tottenham are showing interest in signing him this off-season.<\/p>\n

Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Thomas Frank Go For Esteve?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Esteve is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the front foot and can even use his powerful 1.93m frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his side.<\/p>\n

The French centre-back performed at a high level in the Championship last season. However, there are some concerns over whether he would be able to make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Esteve would add more bite and steel to Tottenham boss Thomas Frank\u2019s backline. At 23, he has his best years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for Spurs to pursue in this transfer window.
