Newcastle United are set to make a big move in this summer\u2019s transfer window, and TBR Football<\/a> reports that Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins has become one of their top targets. The club have already bolstered Eddie Howe\u2019s squad by signing Anthony Elanga, Aaron Ramsdale, Malick Thiaw and Jacob Ramsey, while they started the new season with a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa, but now the focus is on the situation of Alexander Isak, who is set to move to Liverpool<\/a>. Newcastle United want to keep him, but the club have also started looking at potential replacements.<\/p>\n

Watkins\u2019 name continues to come up at the top of the list. He earns \u00a3130,000 a week at Villa Park and has been linked with a transfer this summer. Aston Villa need to raise funds as they missed out on a Champions League place, and that\u2019s why Unai Emery is looking to bring in his old striker Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea.<\/p>\n

Now the question arises whether the 29-year-old striker will be the right choice for Newcastle United at this moment. His biggest quality is the ability to score goals consistently and strong performances against Premier League defenders.<\/p>\n

The Englishman can create constant pressure with his pace and positioning on the field and can also fit into Howe\u2019s tactics. On the other hand, he is 29 years old, and his ability to play consistently has sometimes been questioned. It remains to be seen how beneficial this deal will be in the long term.<\/p>\n

Still, as things stand, Newcastle United will need a striker who can get into the first eleven straight away, and Watkins fits that role and profile perfectly.
