It is reported that the club will not be able to sign Yoane Wissa before the transfer deadline, as many complicated aspects are hampering the deal. Brentford are quiet about this matter and have made it clear that only an offer above £50 million will force them to think. While Wissa is currently on strike, the London club may also be interested in keeping him. If this happens, it will directly affect the story of Alexander Isak, which has become one of the most discussed issues in the transfer market at the moment.

Meanwhile, the transfer deadline in the Premier League is now coming up like a storm. Every club is waiting for the move of the other, and this is the reason why many deals seem to be stuck.

There is talk about Isak that Liverpool may move ahead, and this is increasing the difficulties for Newcastle. Meanwhile, the Magpies have also explored other options. They have held talks with Manchester United for Kobbie Mainoo, although the chances of that deal do not look very strong at the moment. There was also interest in Jorgen Strand Larsen, but Wolves’ £70 million demand stopped Newcastle’s move.

Meanwhile, Wissa has released his latest official statement. The Brentford attacker has made his desire to leave the club clear. He said that in earlier discussions with the club management and the new coach, he was assured that he would be allowed to leave if the right offer came. Now the situation has changed, and the club is blocking his transfer. Wissa believes that this attitude is unfair and can tarnish his positive journey of four years. He has insisted that he has always adopted a professional attitude and did not create controversy. Ultimately, Wissa hopes that a fair solution will be found at the last moment.

“Earlier this summer, I held open discussions with the club’s senior management, including key directors and the new head coach,” he said in the post. “I made clear my intention to explore a new challenge.

“During these conversations, it was confirmed to me and my representatives that the club would not stand in my way if a reasonable offer was received. This was also put in writing.

“Yet as the window comes to an end, the club has now significantly changed its position, going against what was communicated.

“This has left me in a difficult and frustrating position. The commitment that I could leave this summer has not been fulfilled.

“In the meantime, I must do what I feel is right for my career and family and insist that Brentford honor, keep their word to let me join a new club and at a fair price.”

Wissa added: “Being made to stay beyond this summer will only tarnish four wonderful years at this incredible club and so l ask Brentford’s owners and directors to now keep their word to let me leave in the final hours of the window.”

Questions raised on Newcastle United and their strategy

WOLVERHAMPTON, ENGLAND – MAY 25: Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford celebrates with team mate Yoane Wissa (R) after scoring their goal during the Premier League match between Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and Brentford FC at Molineux on May 25, 2025 in Wolverhampton, England. (Photo by David Rogers/Getty Images)

Now the question arises that if Isak does indeed move to Liverpool and Newcastle fail to bring Wissa, will this prove to be the club’s biggest loss? It is a matter of concern for the Magpies that they did not take concrete steps earlier regarding striker options at such a crucial stage of the season. Callum Wilson has left, and if Isak also leaves, the team’s attacking line will be weakened considerably. This is the reason why supporters feel that there are serious flaws in the club’s planning.

In this situation, the only hope left for Newcastle is that either Brentford show leniency in their price or Liverpool drop out of the race for Isak. The DR Congo striker’s stats make him an attractive option. His 19 goals in 35 games in the 2024-25 Premier League season prove that he is a reliable forward. His pace, strength and versatile playing style make him effective in both centre-forward and left wing positions. The 28-year-old can outwit defenders one-on-one and add energy to pressing.

However, the real question is why Newcastle United didn’t think of all this earlier. If the club had tried to keep Isak on time or focused on options like Wissa earlier, they would not have to face such an uncomfortable situation today.

The Magpies also looked at names like Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko, but nothing concrete came out of it. That is why this late move shows their weak preparation. In our opinion, if Newcastle United do not strengthen in this window, this season could be a big blow to their hopes. However, we can’t even blame the Magpies totally, as is clear from the latest statement of the DR Congo international, as he was made hostage and was not allowed to leave the club in any way possible this summer.

A report by Football Insider has raised new questions for Newcastle United.
