In a recent report<\/a>, Football.London claimed that Arsenal are set to step up their efforts to extend the contract of William Saliba following the closure of the summer transfer window. It is believed that the Gunners are eager to extend the French centre-back\u2019s contract with his current deal set to run out in the summer of 2027.<\/p>\n

Saliba\u2019s Impressive Form In North London<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Saliba had a solid campaign at the North London club recently after he put in a run of impressive displays at the centre of their backline. The France international featured in 51 matches for the Gunners last season, finding the back of the net on two occasions in multiple competitions.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old was a rock at the back as he made 62 tackles, 25 blocks, 21 interceptions and 119 clearances in the Premier League. He even distributed the ball well from inside his half after completing 94.3% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via fbref.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Saliba has just got under two years remaining in his Arsenal contract. Thus, it makes sense for the Gunners to try and tie him to a new deal soon.<\/p>\n

Arsenal Are Set To Step Up Their Efforts To Extend Saliba\u2019s Contract: Good Move For Everyone Involved?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Saliba is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when required and excels at playing his way out from the back.<\/p>\n

Standing at 1.92m, Saliba can use his strong frame to win his fair share of aerial duels. He has already proven his worth in the Premier League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

When fit, Saliba remains one of the first names in Arsenal<\/a> head coach Mikel Arteta<\/a>\u2018s teamsheet. He has formed a great partnership with Gabriel and is among the best defenders in the Premier League. Thus, it is a no-brainer for the Gunners to try and extend his contract so that they can keep hold of him for the long run.<\/p>\n
