In a recent report<\/a>, El Nacional revealed that Barcelona<\/a> are eyeing a move for Bayern Munich<\/a> defender Dayot Upamecano. It is believed that the Catalan club are showing interest in recruiting the French centre-back next year.<\/p>\n

Upamecano\u2019s Impressive Form In German Football<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Upamecano managed to prove himself as a solid presence at the heart of Bayern\u2019s backline in the previous campaign. The France international scored two goals and picked up two assists in 38 appearances for the Munich outfit last season across all fronts.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old was a decent performer when defending inside his half as he made 36 tackles, 17 blocks, 34 interceptions and 45 clearances in the Bundesliga<\/a>. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from the back after completing 93.9% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via fbref.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n

His current contract at the Allianz Arena will run out next summer, which could give Barcelona a chance to sign him on a free transfer at the end of this campaign.<\/p>\n

Is Upamecano A Good Option For Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick\u2019s Side?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Upamecano is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is a tidy passer of the ball as well.<\/p>\n

Standing at 1.86m, the France international can use his strong frame to win a few aerial duels for his team. However, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form in La Liga<\/a> if Barcelona manage to get him on board next year.<\/p>\n

We can expect Upamencao to bring more bite and steel to Barca boss Hansi Flick\u2019s backline. He is more than capable of challenging for a regular first-team spot at the Catalan club in the coming years.<\/p>\n

At 26, Upamecano has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him an excellent option for Barcelona to consider this January or at the end of this campaign. He might even help the Catalan giants compete for some major trophies over the next few years.
