The club has faced issues with inefficiency in that position, and hence, the pressure on the board is high.

Amidst all these, Gabriel Jesus has emerged as a possible candidate for the Toffees to strengthen their attacking line. Arsenal don’t have the Brazilian striker in their plans and hence want to sell him. The 28-year-old has not had the impact that everyone would have liked at the Emirates Stadium due to his recurring injuries.

However, Gazeta Do Urubu has reported that the Brazilian club Flamengo have also shown an interest in the Arsenal man and will be competing with Everton for his signature in the winter transfer window. However, the report also adds that the Gunners value him at £30 million, and that could serve as the biggest obstacle to his transfer to Flamengo.

The Brazilian club values his work rate and traits. So, they could give a stiff competition to the Toffees in this chase. Everton also value him a lot, but the move will depend a lot on whether the Mikel Arteta-led club lowers their valuation. We mentioned in an earlier report that Everton has to pay £30–35 million for Gabriel Jesus. Meantime, we had earlier reported that Jake O’Brien is not the natural fit for Everton at right-back and the club might have to sign a player for that position as well.

A High-Stakes Gamble for Everton’s Future

LONDON, ENGLAND – JANUARY 12: Gabriel Jesus of Arsenal reacts during the Emirates FA Cup Third Round match between Arsenal and Manchester United at Emirates Stadium on January 12, 2025 in London, England. (Photo by Julian Finney/Getty Images)

For Everton, this interest in Jesus shows both ambition and risk. His Premier League experience and proven ability in England could solve the Toffees’ goal-scoring problems. Spending £30 million on a forward like him could be a smart move, especially for a club struggling to take their chances.

Yet, there is another side that needs attention. Jesus’s time at Arsenal has been affected by injuries and inconsistency, and those issues may continue. Everton’s recent history with injury-prone signings offers a warning, while their earlier financial fair play breaches make every big-money deal a careful balance.

Jesus’s wages could become another problem. Such a heavy cost might limit the club’s ability to strengthen other key positions. The success of this move, therefore, depends on two things: whether Jesus can stay fit enough to lead Everton’s attack and whether the club can handle the financial strain without affecting their stability. For Everton, chasing Gabriel Jesus looks like a risky bet—one that could either fix their scoring troubles or deepen their struggles.

Everton have been on the hunt to strengthen their attack, as they are looking at the January transfer window to sign a new striker.
