In his recent conversation with The Sunday Post\u00a0(as cited by The Daily Record<\/a>), Kevin Gallacher has shared an update on Angus Gunn\u2019s potential move to Celtic next summer. The Nottingham Forest outcast is expected to ply his trade at Parkhead and replace Kasper Schmeichel between the sticks, the former Scotland forward understands.<\/p>\n

Despite a brief stint at his boyhood club, Norwich City, the 29-year-old custodian primarily progressed through the esteemed academy ranks of Manchester City. He was loaned back to the Canaries during the 2017-18 campaign for regular minutes, and an impressive spell in Norfolk earned him a top-flight return with Southampton, who splashed \u00a313.5m to secure his services.<\/p>\n

But he mostly featured as the understudy to Alex McCarthy at St Mary\u2019s before joining Stoke City in the Championship in October 2020. There, his gametime was significantly impacted due to injuries, and the Scotsman eventually returned to Norwich a year later on a permanent deal. After deputising Tim Krul in the top-flight, Gunn cemented a \u2018number 1\u2019 status since their relegation in 2022, until this summer, when he signed a one-year contract with Forest.<\/p>\n

However, things have not worked out for the goalkeeper, who hoped<\/a> to play Cup games as the second-fiddle to Matz Sels. He has been pushed further down the pecking order behind John Victor, and the lack of involvement might jeopardise his playing time on the international stage with Scotland. Steve Clarke relies on him over Craig Gordon and Liam Kelly, with the duo facing a similar fate with their respective outfits, Hearts and Rangers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While a loan exit in January could not be ruled out, signing him on a Bosman would be a smart move for the Glasgow giants. Schmeichel, soon-to-be 39, might not be retained beyond this season, and the experience of Gunn would come into play, even though Viljami Sinisalo is waiting on the wings for his opportunities in Celtic<\/a> colours.<\/p>\n

Having said that, the Scottish shot-stopper must focus on his immediate future and force a winter exit unless things change under new Forest boss Sean Dyche.
