If a recent report from the Spanish outlet\u00a0Fichajes\u00a0<\/a>is<\/span> believed to be true, Sunderland are eyeing a mega-money move for young Barcelona sensation Fermin Lopez. The Black Cats have shown their financial firepower since securing a dramatic top-flight return, and are now preparing an astronomical \u20ac80m bid for the midfield attacker.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old Spanish international progressed through the academy ranks of El Campillo, Recreativo and Betis before joining the esteemed La Masia youth setup in 2016. He was loaned out at Linares in the third division, and his productive stint in senior football was rewarded by Xavi, the former Barca<\/a> boss, who handed him a first-team status since the 2023-24 season.<\/p>\n

Lopez has seized his opportunities as a playmaker, netting 25 goals and setting up 15 times in 99 appearances for the Spanish giants [stats via Transfermarket<\/a>]. He has demonstrated his flexibility as a \u2018number 10\u2019, central midfielder, as well as on the left-hand side under Hansi Flick in his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.<\/p>\n

Despite his excellence for the Catalans, the substantial transfer debt could force them to sanction the move to the Stadium of Light.
