Speaking on the Inside Track podcast<\/a>, journalist Pete O\u2019Rourke stated that Liverpool<\/a> could face competition from Bayern Munich<\/a> for Borussia Dortmund<\/a> ace Nico Schlotterbeck. O\u2019Rourke said,<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s a developing story.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think obviously he\u2019s got a contract until 2027 with Dortmund, so it\u2019s not like he could be lured away on a pre-contract this January. His future is very much up in the air at Dortmund.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s turned down an improved contract offer to extend his stay beyond 2027 and, by all accounts, reports in Germany suggest he is unhappy with the current situation at the club with regard to the style of play under Nico Kovac as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo when you get all that going, you will have lots of rumours of a possible move away for the German international.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s developed into one of the best young centre backs in the world during his time at Dortmund and for Germany as well. So look, Dortmund are worried by the interest in him.<\/p>\n

\u201cBayern Munich are keeping very close tabs on the situation due to their ongoing scenario regarding their own centre back options with Dayot Upamecano potentially leaving on a free transfer in the summer.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey see Schlotterbeck as being an ideal replacement for him if the Frenchman was to leave Bavaria this summer.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut while Liverpool are openly looking for centre-back reinforcements, [there are] ongoing doubts about\u00a0Ibrahima Konate\u00a0and his long-term future.<\/p>\n

\u201cVirgil van Dijk is not getting any younger as well. So look, I think he\u2019s [Schlotterbeck] going to have plenty of options, no doubts about that.<\/p>\n

\u201cBayern Munich will be confident that they can maybe keep him in Germany if he decides to leave Borussia Dortmund.\u201d<\/p>\n

Schlotterbeck\u2019s Decent Form In German Football<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Schlotterbeck has put in a run of solid displays at the heart of Dortmund\u2019s defence this season. The German talent has made ten appearances for them in this campaign so far, securing one assist in multiple competitions.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old has caught the eye on the defensive third of the pitch by making 13 tackles, five blocks, eight interceptions and 34 clearances in the Bundesliga<\/a>. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from the back, based on his pass completion rate of 86.8% in the German top flight (stats via fbref.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Liverpool Set To Rival Bayern Munich For Schlotterbeck: Is He Worth The Fight?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Schlotterbeck loves a tackle and can make some timely interceptions for his team inside his half. He doesn\u2019t mind clearing the danger when needed and can use his strong 1.91m frame to win a few aerial duels.<\/p>\n

The German talent would no doubt add more bite and steel to Liverpool boss Arne Slot\u2019s defence if he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.<\/p>\n
