Speaking on the\u00a0Inside Track podcast<\/a>, journalist Pete O\u2019Rourke claimed that Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> are monitoring the situation of Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta. O\u2019Rourke said,<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sure Tottenham will be keeping tabs on the situation with\u00a0Mateta.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey made a cheeky offer for him right at the end of the last summer transfer window, which\u00a0Palace\u00a0batted away.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s under contract until 2027 but if he\u2019s not going to sign a new deal by next summer, you would imagine Palace would be more increasingly open to selling Mateta to get a fee for him, rather than potentially letting him run down his contract.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, that could open the door for Spurs to make a move for the Frenchman.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a proven striker in the Premier League now over the last couple of seasons so be a really good fit for Spurs. There\u2019s also\u00a0reported interest from Italy, from AC Milan as well, in Mateta.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mateta\u2019s Impressive Form In The Premier League<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Mateta has enjoyed an excellent run of form at the London club as he has produced a series of impressive displays for them in the final third. The 28-year-old has banged in nine goals and earned two assists in 23 matches for Crystal Palace<\/a> this season across various competitions.<\/p>\n

The French forward has led the charge well for the Eagles and has done well to average 2.77 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League<\/a>. He has kept 47.2% of his attempts on target. However, Mateta has to find a way to improve his ball distribution after completing 64.6% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via fbref.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Will Mateta Be A Good Fit For Tottenham Hotspur?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Mateta is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet.<\/p>\n

The French sensation can use his strong 1.92m frame to win a few aerial duels for his team. However, he has to find a way to improve his link-up play on the offensive end of the field.<\/p>\n

We can expect Mateta to bring more firepower to Tottenham boss Thomas Frank\u2019s frontline. He has what it takes to fight for a regular first-team spot at the North London club in the coming years.<\/p>\n
