This buzz really took off after the Transfer Insider podcast dropped new details. Journalist Pete O’Rourke says the Toffees lead the race to sign the winger for good. They remain the favourites even though he is dealing with a nasty injury.

Can Everton actually sign Jack Grealish permanently?

Right now, the loan deal has a £50 million price tag attached to it. However, the Merseyside club want to talk that number down to something closer to £20 million. This comes just as news breaks that a foot injury will keep Jack Grealish out for the rest of the season. Still, nobody can argue with the impact he has had at Everton.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, he explained: “I think you probably have to say that Everton are in pole position to sign Grealish if he does end up leaving Man City, whether that’s on a permanent or a loan.

“Obviously, Everton do have that £50million purchase option in the current loan agreement for Grealish right now.

“Everton don’t really want to pay that and they would like to renegotiate that, maybe even a smaller fee, maybe around £20million.

“He’s obviously got no long-term future at Manchester City, I think that’s pretty certain. City will be open to all options to see Grealish move on whether that’s on a permanent or a loan.

“There’ll be talks to be held between Everton and City probably to see if a deal can be agreed and I’m sure there’s other clubs who will be monitoring his situation at City as well.”

What happens next for the midfielder?

The 30-year-old England star showed up at Everton in the summer of 2025. He arrived as a big-name loanee hoping to kickstart a career that had hit a wall under Pep Guardiola. David Moyes made the playmaker a huge part of his system right away.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND – JANUARY 07: Jack Grealish of Everton looks on during the Premier League match between Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers at Hill Dickinson Stadium on January 07, 2026 in Liverpool, England. (Photo by Matt McNulty/Getty Images)

Grealish quickly became the guy the team looked to whenever they needed to create a chance. A stress fracture in his foot cut his season short during a win against Aston Villa in January. Before that happened, the winger racked up six assists and two goals in twenty-two games. He is great at carrying the ball and drawing fouls, which gave the Blues an edge they just didn’t have before.

Looking at the money side of things, it makes total sense for Everton to want a discount. The player isn’t getting any younger, and his recent fitness record is a worry. Manchester City seem happy to let him move on. It looks like the creative star doesn’t fit into their long-term plans anymore. Moving for good gives the player some stability. It also gives Everton a proven Premier League talent for way less than the £100 million Manchester City once paid for him.

The most likely outcome is a deal where both sides meet in the middle. The clubs will probably structure a fee with extra payments based on how he plays, rather than asking for a massive pile of cash upfront. With less than four months left on his City contract this summer, Everton hold the cards in these talks. Getting a deal done for around £25 million would be a massive win for the Friedkin Group. It ensures the squad keeps a top-level leader as they head into their new stadium era.

Fans are talking more than ever about Jack Grealish’s future at Everton.
