Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast<\/a>, journalist Pete O\u2019Rourke claimed that Chelsea<\/a> wanted to land Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> talent Lucas Bergvall in January. O\u2019Rourke said,<\/p>\n

\u201cWell look, if Tottenham are out of Europe and struggling again, they\u2019re going to find themselves more more susceptible to offers for their best players and Bergvall definitely comes in to that reckoning.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a highly-regarded player and he\u2019s done well since he arrived at Tottenham.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, he\u2019s out with a long-term injury, so he\u2019s been a big miss for Tottenham in the fight they find themselves in for survival as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s highly regarded at Tottenham, he\u2019s under a long contract until 2031 and there was no surprise that they rebuffed those inquiries from Chelsea and Villa in the January window.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was no change they were going to let him leave then. Tottenham see him as a key part of their long-term future at the club.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut if Spurs continue to struggle and maybe miss out on European competition, you might have other clubs ready to test their resolve to keep hold of their best players including Bergvall.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bergvall\u2019s Impressive Form In North London<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Bergvall managed to shine at times for the North London club before he suffered a long-term injury. The Swedish talent has scored one goal and earned four assists in 26 matches for Tottenham this season on all fronts.<\/p>\n

His current contract at the North London club will run out in the summer of 2031. Hence, it won\u2019t be easy for Chelsea to get a deal done for the Swedish talent on the cheap later this year.<\/p>\n

Should Chelsea Boss Liam Rosenior Go Back For Bergvall?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Bergvall is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn\u2019t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive.<\/p>\n

The Swedish talent can strike the ball with power from long range and has got the vision to create the odd chance for his teammates from midfield. Bergvall is full of energy and running at the centre of the park. He mainly operates as a box-to-box midfielder but can also serve as a defensive midfielder or play in the number ten position if needed.<\/p>\n

Bergvall would have added a lot of quality to Chelsea\u2019s midfield. Thus, it makes sense for Liam Rosenior to go back for him at the end of this campaign.
