This followed a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa on Saturday. A late goal from the home side ruined the chance for a historic win. Even so, the German manager felt proud of the performance. The game showed how much tougher his squad has become this season.

Farke Hails Leeds Warriors After Gritty Villa Park Draw

Leeds took the lead when Anton Stach finished a sharp chance. They looked ready to take all three points against a team fighting for the Premier League title. The Yorkshire side stayed disciplined and kept their shape all afternoon. They frustrated Unai Emery’s side and looked dangerous on the break.

But the pressure finally told. Aston Villa found a gap in the final minutes to grab a point. Farke said he was gutted by the timing of the goal. Still, he quickly looked at the bigger picture. He pointed out that his team went to one of the hardest grounds in Europe and stood their ground against a top side.

He didn’t want to moan about the missed win. Instead, he praised his warriors for fighting until the very end. This result keeps Leeds in fifteenth place. They have a decent gap between them and the bottom three as the season hits the home stretch.

On the Result and Late Goal: “Yes, we would be fighting for Europe,” he joked when asked about conceding late. “We have also scored several late goals. It is crazy that you travel away as a Premier League promoted side to one of the title contenders, one of the best teams in this country and also in Europe, and you are slightly disappointed with just one point.”

On the Defensive Effort: “But it’s the overall feeling. You concede so late and get a chance to score the second goal in the second half. And also keep in mind the goal was avoidable and there was also a second phase out of the corner kick in the 89th minute.”

Praising the Squad: “You feel, of course, in the first moment a bit disappointed. But I have to say my warriors today deserve all the praise and lots of compliments. It’s a really good point for us and another top performance.”

On the Overall Value of the Point: “We came so close, really, to win all three, but the moment of disappointment, I have to say, is another really valuable point. It’s one point closer to what we want to achieve.”

On Recent Away Form: “There are not many sides in the recent months who have lost less games on the road than we have done so you can’t complain too much if you travel away from Liverpool, Chelsea and Aston Villa with a draw. I think we deserve to be rewarded a bit more often with three points but to earn survival as a promoted side is not easy so I don’t want to be too greedy.”

On Gabriel Gudmundsson’s Substitution: “He was ill, he felt more and more unwell in the last days. We were a bit concerned that he couldn’t start… Thank God there was no temperature, and he played his part in a really solid first half.” (Via Sky Sports)

Can Farke’s Grit Keep Leeds United Up for Good?

LEEDS, ENGLAND – JANUARY 31: Daniel Farke, Manager of Leeds United, arrives at the stadium prior to the Premier League match between Leeds United and Arsenal at Elland Road on January 31, 2026 in Leeds, England. (Photo by Michael Regan/Getty Images)

Daniel Farke is 49 now and has plenty of experience. That experience is helping Leeds United stay in the top flight. The German boss has brought a real sense of belief back to the team. You could see it clearly during the draw at Villa Park. He showed his tactics can hold up even under huge pressure.

Critics used to say his teams were too soft at the back. But this Leeds side looks much more solid and street-smart. Farke calls his players warriors to build a shared identity. This goes down well with the Elland Road fans. They love hard work just as much as good football.

As of 22nd February 2026, the big question is still there. Can this tough style turn them into a top-ten team? The draw against third-place Villa proves one thing. Leeds can take on the best when they stay focused. Now, they need to stop thinking about just surviving and start thinking about staying in the Premier League for years to come.

If Farke keeps getting this much effort from his players, they won’t be worrying about late equalisers for long. They’ll be looking up the table instead. This point at Villa Park isn’t just about the standings. It’s a huge mental boost for a club on the way up.

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke praised his players’ massive heart.
