Mateo Joseph has made his intentions clear. He wants to extend his loan at RCD Mallorca beyond this summer. He told Fibwi Radio\u2019s La Zona 10, relayed by Sport Witness<\/a>, that his happiness in Mallorca makes him reluctant to leave. The 22-year-old Spain Under-21 international joined the La Liga side on a season-long loan from Leeds United<\/a> in August 2025. Joseph spoke candidly about the situation. He acknowledged that Leeds United hold the final decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d like to continue being happy here,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen you\u2019re happy somewhere, why change? It doesn\u2019t depend much on me because I have a contract with another club. We\u2019ll see what the future holds for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Joseph played 1,606 minutes across 28 appearances this season. He recorded two goals and two assists. Former manager Jagoba Arrasate used the Santander-born striker as both a centre-forward and a right winger, but Mallorca struggled. They managed just six wins from 25 league matches, and these results eventually cost Arrasate his job. Mart\u00edn Demichelis took charge afterwards. Joseph expressed genuine enthusiasm for the Argentine\u2019s approach.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has ambition, personality, and that desire to do well,\u201d the striker explained. \u201cHe\u2019s very demanding. That fits my personality well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Demichelis has earned a win and a draw in his first two matches. So far, he has used Joseph strictly as a striker.<\/p>\n

Mallorca currently sit 16th in the La Liga table. They stay just two points above the relegation zone. Joseph admitted it \u201chasn\u2019t been the best year for the club.\u201d Despite the chaos, he thanked everyone around him. He specifically praised his teammates, coaches, and the sporting director for welcoming him.<\/p>\n

Crucially, the existing loan agreement contains no purchase clause. Joseph must return to Elland Road this summer unless the clubs negotiate new terms. Leeds United previously rejected<\/a> Mallorca\u2019s attempt to include a buy option of \u20ac5\u20136 million. It clearly proves that the Yorkshire club value the player much higher than Mallorca wants to pay.<\/p>\n

The situation gets complicated when looking at Leeds United. They currently sit 15th in the Premier League, and they are only three points clear of the relegation zone. The club are fighting for survival in its first season back in the top flight.<\/p>\n

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored ten times for Leeds United, and Lukas Nmecha has added six Premier League goals. Consequently, Joseph\u2019s spot in the attacking rotation looks weak. His loan tally of two goals and three assists does not justify a spot in the starting lineup. Furthermore, his pre-season exit remains a problem. He refused to attend training in Germany before his move.<\/p>\n

If Leeds United drop back to the Championship, the situation changes. Joseph would likely join Daniel Farke<\/a>\u2018s squad in the second tier. Therefore, extending the Mallorca loan for another year might suit Leeds United perfectly, as it buys time and protects his market value.
