While Brown confirmed that several Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on the Welsh defender, he downplayed the idea that Leeds should be worried about losing him this summer.

Mick Brown on Joe Rodon’s future at Elland Road

The 28-year-old has been a constant presence in Daniel Farke’s lineup throughout this 2025/26 campaign, racking up over 2,500 minutes of top-flight action. Brown noted that Rodon’s permanent move from Tottenham always carried a bit of a prove-it factor. Many wondered if he could cut it in the Premier League after a strong Championship stint. Brown admitted he had his own doubts, but those have been well and truly buried.

His take was simple, and that is if Leeds stay up, they keep Rodon. The defender has chipped in with two massive goals this season and ranks fifth among Premier League centre-backs for ground duel win rate. While rival clubs are interested, Brown understands that Rodon is happy and settled. Farke has no intention of selling his best assets, and Rodon is central to that plan. The mood isn’t one of panic; it’s a case of inevitable interest that likely won’t lead to a formal bid.

“Joe Rodon has been outstanding for Leeds,” Brown told Football Insider.

“When he made the move from Tottenham, you were looking at him waiting for him to prove himself, and he did that in the Championship.

“The next question was whether he could do it in the Premier League, and I must admit I had my doubts, but he’s been a crucial part of their team this season.

“The problem then is, when you perform at a high level in the Premier League and for Wales, a lot of rival clubs start sniffing around, and there are a few looking at Rodon.

“But I don’t think it’s a major concern for Leeds, by all accounts, he’s happy there and he’s playing well, so they’re not going to want to let him go.

“If they stay up come the end of the season, Leeds are confident they can keep hold of Rodon and all of their best players, and they want to build around them.

“Obviously, Premier League clubs will be interested, it’s just the way these things work, but I don’t think there’s anybody out there now who will make a big move.

“So from a Leeds point of view, I don’t expect to see any movement there.”

Is Rodon truly irreplaceable at Leeds United?

LEEDS, ENGLAND – FEBRUARY 06: Joe Rodon of Leeds United reacts during the Premier League match between Leeds United and Nottingham Forest at Elland Road on February 06, 2026 in Leeds, England. (Photo by George Wood/Getty Images)

Statistically, Rodon is a workhorse. He’s averaging 5.71 clearances per game across 18 Premier League matches, showing he’s a safety-first defender. WhoScored highlights his passing and composure. These are traits Farke needs for a team that like to play out from the back.

However, we have to be honest about his recent form. Leeds sit 15th, just four points above the relegation zone. While Rodon has been reliable, his performance levels have cooled off slightly since the new year. He’s still a leader, but he isn’t bulletproof.

Now, we have the question in hand that do Leeds need him next year? Absolutely. At 28, he’s in his prime, and his tall frame provides a necessary aerial presence. But the club shouldn’t treat him as untouchable. When his partnership with Jaka Bijol or Pascal Struijk is disrupted, he can look exposed against pacey forwards.

I expect Rodon to stay. Top-six clubs aren’t looking for a 28-year-old mid-table defender, and mid-tier rivals can’t offer him more stability than he already has at Elland Road. Farke’s real challenge isn’t keeping Rodon; it’s finding a permanent partner to help him lead this defence.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown recently shared some blunt thoughts with Football Insider regarding Joe Rodon’s future at Elland Road.
