The trip to Hearts on 4 May and a massive Old Firm clash at Celtic Park on 10 May look set to decide where the trophy lands. While the title race takes centre stage, a major transfer story is developing behind the scenes involving an 18-year-old who has become a vital part of the Ibrox setup.

Tottenham set to recall Mikey Moore as Spurs look to Championship future

Mikey Moore, who arrived at Rangers on a season-long loan last summer, has confirmed he plans to head back to Tottenham Hotspur next season. This marks a shift from earlier suggestions that he might extend his stay in Glasgow.

Speaking to Football Insider, former Tottenham scout Mick Brown claimed Moore’s consistent displays at Ibrox have forced Spurs’ hand. Brown pointed out that if Tottenham are relegated to the Championship, their current wingers likely won’t stick around, paving the way for Moore to walk straight into the first team, making a recall the most likely outcome.

“The way things are going at the moment, they’ll be in the Championship,” Brown told Football Insider.

“The big question is whether their current wingers are going to stick around, are they going to pay their wages and convince them to play in the Championship?

“It’s more likely that they’ll be moved on, and that could open the door for Mikey Moore.

“Their loans department has been assessing how well he’s done, how good he is, and whether he’ll be ready to come into their starting XI.

“Is he the level of player they need in the Championship, or do they think they can do better elsewhere?

“That’s the decision they’ll make at the end of the season, even if they stay in the Premier League, but if they go down, it becomes much more likely that he will return.”

The stats from his time in Scotland tell the real story. Moore has bagged six goals in 28 Premiership outings, two at home and four on the road, averaging 0.3 goals per 90 minutes. With two assists added to the mix, his total goal involvements sit at eight (0.4 per 90).

His underlying numbers are even more impressive; a Non-Penalty Expected Goals (npxG) figure of 0.41 per 90 gives him a total npxG of 8.14. When you add 29 chances created and 35 successful dribbles, it’s easy to see why he’s in the top 91st percentile of all Premiership players, which are remarkable numbers for a teenager.

His passing stats back this up: 28.60 passes per game at nearly 80% accuracy, 1.66 key passes, and an Expected Assists (xA) of 0.18 per 90, ranking him higher than 75% of the rest of the league.

Does losing Moore signal the end of Rangers’ hopes of building something special?

GLASGOW, SCOTLAND – MARCH 21: Mikey Moore of Rangers celebrates after scoring his team’s second goal during the William Hill Premiership match between Rangers and Aberdeen at Ibrox Stadium on March 21, 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland. (Photo by Ian MacNicol/Getty Images)

Losing Moore this summer will be a massive blow for Rangers, regardless of what the club say publicly. He arrived as a wildcard but leaves as a fan favourite who gave Röhl’s attack a much-needed spark. Röhl handed the youngster a free role in the final third, and Moore clearly relished the high-pressure environment at Ibrox.

The issue for Rangers is that their desire to keep him clashes with Tottenham’s desperate situation. With Spurs hunting for long-term attacking options while fighting relegation under Roberto De Zerbi, a return to North London seems like a formality.

Rangers now face the tough task of finding a replacement who can shoulder that same creative load during a title charge. That’s a tall order, and there isn’t an obvious successor waiting in the wings. Moore’s stint at Ibrox has been the perfect loan move, intense, high-stakes, and a massive learning curve.
