Aston Villa will likely have to cough up at least \u20ac30 million to sign Geny Catamo from Sporting CP, especially after seeing a \u20ac20 million bid knocked back last summer. According to A Bola<\/a>, Sporting have hiked their asking price after the 25-year-old Mozambican winger put together a breakout season in Lisbon.<\/p>\n

Aston Villa face a steeper price for Geny Catamo as Sporting dig in<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Catamo has racked up eight goals and four assists in 41 games, starting 33 of them, and he is now seen as a vital part of manager Rui Borges\u2019 plans. Both Villa<\/a> and Fenerbah\u00e7e saw \u20ac20 million offers rejected last year, and since then, Sporting have tied Catamo down until 2029 with a \u20ac60 million release clause. While the Portuguese giants were once open to a sale, they have done a total U-turn and are now holding out for the absolute maximum.<\/p>\n

That extra \u20ac10 million changes the game for Villa<\/strong><\/h3>\n

For Aston Villa<\/a>, that extra \u20ac10 million is a massive hurdle, particularly as they move into one of their biggest summer windows in recent memory. Aston Villa are currently sitting fourth in the Premier League and look like the favourites to secure Champions League football for next season, which will be a step up from their Europa League run this term.<\/p>\n

Unai Emery\u2019s squad is thin on the right wing now that Leon Bailey has moved on and Jadon Sancho\u2019s loan has wrapped up. Catamo will be the perfect profile for the vacancy as he\u2019s left-footed, direct, and versatile. At \u20ac20 million, he looked like a bargain. At \u20ac30 million, the math changes, and Villa have to keep a very close eye on their PSR (Profit and Sustainability) limits.<\/p>\n

The club have been disciplined in the market lately and won\u2019t be bullied into overpaying just because Sporting are playing hardball. If the \u20ac30 million price tag is non-negotiable, Villa could easily move on to other targets. In fact, Sporting might be banking on them doing exactly that.<\/p>\n

The lure of the Champions League gives the club a lot more bargaining power, and better options might pop up at more reasonable prices.
