As revealed by <\/span>Fabrizio Romano<\/span><\/a>, Manchester City have made a late formal approach for FC Porto midfielder Nico Gonz\u00e1lez. However, the Premier League club isn\u2019t keen on triggering his release clause of \u20ac60 million and will try to bring his value down.<\/span><\/p>\n

The case of Nico Gonz\u00e1lez<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Nico Gonz\u00e1lez<\/a> is a La Masia graduate who switched to FC Porto in the summer of 2023. Since then, he has been able to enhance his game further and establish himself as a mainstay in the squad, attracting eyeballs from across the globe.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gonz\u00e1lez is enjoying a great campaign so far as he has already netted seven goals and provided six assists in 29 games. He <\/span>is averaging<\/span> 1.5 shots, 0.8 key passes, and 0.8 dribbles per game (stats via <\/span>whoscored<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n

The Spanish midfielder is versatile to don different roles in the midfield. He is known for his visionary passes and aerial presence. He is a good carrier of the ball with sensible decision-making skills and effective dribbling abilities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Manchester City have made some notable recruitments in the winter window but they aren\u2019t looking to stop there. In the absence of Rodri<\/a>, their midfield still looks a bit shaky and might need more reinforcements to be able to compete.<\/span><\/p>\n

Though Nico Gonzalez isn\u2019t an ideal replacement for Rodri, the former\u2019s versatility and qualities can be useful. He adds different elements to the side and can be a long-term investment for the Citizens.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 23-year-old has a year and a half left on his current contract with a release clause of \u20ac60 million. Manchester City aren\u2019t willing to trigger that amount and will only look to bring him if the Portuguese outfit are ready to negotiate. In that case, FC Porto<\/a> might prefer retaining the player as 40 per cent of the price will be alloted to FC Barcelona.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
