Marc Brus of Caught Offside<\/a> has reported that Arsenal want to buy a new striker in the summer transfer window and have targeted Mateo Retegui as the one to sign from Atalanta<\/a>. The Serie A side will have to work hard to retain the striker amidst interests from a top Premier League side like the Gunners.<\/p>\n

Mikel Arteta\u2019s side had been looking for a striker in the earlier transfer windows as well. Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus have not been that prolific in front of goal this season. Hence, Arteta is in need of a natural striker who can score consistent goals.<\/p>\n

Retegui is the quintessential modern striker, blending physicality with finesse. He\u2019s lethal inside the box, with exceptional timing and movement that create scoring opportunities from half-chances. His ability to score with both feet and his head makes him unpredictable.<\/p>\n

The Argentina born forward excels in aerial duels, yet he\u2019s not just a target man; he\u2019s also adept at dropping deep to link play. His work rate is commendable, pressing from the front and contributing defensively, making him a well-rounded forward. Therefore, the Gunners want to sign him in the summer.<\/p>\n

Why is he a good pick?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Retegui has scored 20 goals in 23 matches so far in the Serie A 2024\/2025 season. Overall, his goals scored per 90 minutes is 1.3. Moreover, Retegui\u2019s total G\/A (goals + assists) is 23 for this season. His goal involvement equates to 1.5 per 90 minutes. His non-penalty xG per 90 minutes is 0.99. These statistics clearly show that the Atlanta man has been in great form this season.<\/p>\n

The Gunners might buy this in-form striker for \u20ac60 million. Hence, he will definitely be much cheaper than the other strikers that the club are linked to. So, the Gunners should definitely make a move for Retegui. However, it also remains to be seen if the Serie A side lets their star striker leave in the summer transfer window.<\/p>\n
