They had a shambolic start following Everton’s 2-0 lead before half-time.

But the Red Devils scripted an incredible comeback, thanks to Bruno Fernandes’ free-kick reduced the deficit in the second half. A stellar strike from Manuel Ugarte made it all square minutes later, and a dramatic late VAR call overturned the home side’s spot-kick thus resulting in a 2-2 draw.

Below are the Manchester United players rated in their 2-2 draw against Everton.

Andre Onana: 6

Another below-par performance from the Cameroonian custodian who should have done better to stop Jack Harrison’s initial strike before Doucoure’s goal. Made a great save to deny the Malian from scoring his second midway through the second half.

Noussair Mazraoui: 6

Started in the three-man defence amid Lisandro Martinez, Jonny Evans and Luke Shaw’s injury absence. Was rusty with the tackles, but he made some crucial clearances and interceptions to deal with Everton’s direct play.

Harry Maguire: 5.5

Was part of United’s collective failure during Beto’s opener. Should have done better to clear the ball in the first place. The set-piece led to several failed clearance attempts before falling favourably into the path of the in-form centre-forward who made no mistake in firing in beyond Onana from a very close range.

Matthijs de Ligt: 5.5

De Ligt, too, looked clueless against the hosts’ aerial and physical presence high up the pitch. His positioning could have been better at times, also a lot of poor touches from the Dutchman refrained United from playing it out from the back. Had a massive relief in the injury time when VAR ruled out the on-field referee’s initial penalty call following his foul on Ashley Young.

Diogo Dalot: 6

Had little impact down the flank as he kept on losing duels and offered little with overlapping runs. The lack of options on the bench forced Amorim to stick with the Portuguese throughout the contest.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND – FEBRUARY 22: Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United celebrates scoring his team’s first goal during the Premier League match between Everton FC and Manchester United FC at Goodison Park on February 22, 2025 in Liverpool, England. (Photo by Jan Kruger/Getty Images)

Casemiro: 5.5

James Garner, the Red Devils reject, showed Casemiro why he is way past his prime. The Brazilian’s lack of pace and work rate never allowed United to build the game up from deep down the midfield. Was replaced by Alejandro Garnacho around the hour mark.

Manuel Ugarte: 7.5

Was combative in midfield as he engaged in duels and challenges. Closed the space down in the centre of the pitch and his blistering strike late in the match earned them a massive point after a shocking first-half display.

Patrick Dorgu: 7

The only United player who looked purposeful with his marauding runs, crosses and cut insides during the first 45 minutes of the encounter. However, the winter recruit could not replicate his first-half performance after the break.

Bruno Fernandes: 8.5

Was largely ineffective until his second-half free-kick which brought them back into the back for the final 20 minutes of the contest. Led his men from the front en route to scripting a dramatic comeback on the road.

Rasmus Hojlund: 5

Another dreadful performance from the Danish ‘number 9′ who was completely outmuscled by James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite. Did not even come close to testing Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal and was eventually replaced by teenage ace Chido Obi moments before Fernandes’ goal.

Joshua Zirkzee: 5.5

Struggled physically against the Toffees’ defensive line. Yet he tried his best to make an impression with his off-the-ball work rate and build-up play.

Manchester United Subs vs Everton

Alejandro Garnacho: 7.5

Injected pace and tricky footwork in and around the attacking third.

Leny Yoro: 7

Showed his composure in the closing minutes when the game opened up due to United’s desperate attempt for the equalizer.

Chido Obi: 6.5

Crucial minutes for the teenager who is destined to make it big in the forthcoming future.

 Pratyay Maitra

A sports enthusiast who reads, breathes, as well as dreams (mostly) about football and attempts to share his views with the fanatics by jotting down a few words.

Despite appointing Ruben Amorim as the new Old Trafford boss, the nightmare continued for Manchester United who lost back-to-back Premier League games against Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur before this afternoon’s trip to Goodison Park.
