In a recent interview with Football Insider<\/a>, former Manchester United scout Mick Brown stated that Newcastle United are still hoping to land Crystal Palace<\/a> defender Marc Guehi. Brown said,<\/p>\n

\u201cNewcastle are still interested in Marc Guehi.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey want to sign a centre-back and he is the outstanding candidate for them.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody knows how keen on him they were last year, and he\u2019s done nothing in the time since to put off potential suitors.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s been brilliant for Crystal Palace and for England, and if anything his stock has gone up.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlus, he\u2019s done himself a lot of favours by keeping his head down and getting on with the job, he\u2019s never been distracted by all of the talk about his future.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s not going to cost the \u00a370million Palace turned down last year because of his contract situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo for Newcastle, that will be a boost to their chances to get it done on a cheaper deal.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat doesn\u2019t mean he\u2019ll be cheap by any means, but it won\u2019t be that same \u00a370million fee.\u201c<\/p>\n

Guehi\u2019s Impressive Form In The Premier League This Season<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Guehi has been a solid performer for the Eagles in the Premier League after putting in a run of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the pitch. The 24-year-old has scored three goals and grabbed a couple of assists in 42 matches for Crystal Palace this season in various competitions.<\/p>\n

The English talent has been a rock at the back based on his average of 1.7 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 4.6 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after making 84% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Is Guehi A Good Option For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Guehi is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his team. He doesn\u2019t mind clearing the danger when required and is proficient at playing his way out from the back.<\/p>\n

We can expect Guehi to bring more bite and steel to Newcastle United<\/a> head coach Eddie Howe\u2019s defence. He is good enough to earn a regular first-team place at St. James\u2019 Park next season.<\/p>\n

At 24, Guehi has his peak years ahead of him which makes him an excellent option for the Magpies to pursue in this summer transfer window.
