Anduril netted a new $363 million contract in December to further expand use of the towers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<p>Last week, a crypto bank he backed called Erebor \u2014 another Tolkien name, this time recalling the Lonely Mountain from <i>The Hobbit<\/i> \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/us\/business-us\/article\/tech-focused-erebor-bank-wins-conditional-approval-in-us-dzr3hv9j9\">became the first to receive a national charter<\/a> during the Trump administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/business\/companies-markets\/article\/us-tech-firm-to-make-fighter-drones-on-the-isle-of-wight-6002wgbsb\"><b>American tech firm prepares to make fighter drones on the Isle of Wight<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Luckey is a longstanding Trump supporter and major donor to the Republican Party. In 2011 he wrote to Trump urging him to run for president. He made his fortune aged 21 when he sold a virtual reality system to Facebook for $2 billion. A few years later he left his role as a virtual reality executive at Facebook when it emerged he had secretly funded an organisation which created anti-Hillary Clinton memes. <\/p>\n<p>Luckey is one of a number of prominent donors with companies that are winning billions of dollars\u2019 worth of public contracts from the administration after a record $170 billion for border security was freed up under Trump\u2019s One Big Beautiful Bill.<\/p>\n<p>They include:<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"a2432227-3d7e-49a4-b5a6-1fc11efd8ea9\">Tommy Fisher<\/h2>\n<div id=\"6.8\"><picture><source  type=\"image\/webp\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Man speaking with Immigration and Customs Enforcement seals in the background.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/imageserver\/image\/%2Fd1acdacc-f156-4e3a-bebc-3c3677e16d7f.jpg?crop=1600%2C200%2C0%2C0\"><\/picture><\/div>\n<p>In 2019 Fisher, 56, used an on-air Fox News appearance to pitch his plan to build 218 miles of 30ft fence along the southern border.<\/p>\n<p>The chief executive of Fisher Sand and Gravel, a construction company, would go on to secure billions in federal contracts after his bold promise to build a mile of wall a day using a hanging system that could place long stretches of fence at once.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s so revolutionary it\u2019s like comparing the iPhone to a payphone,\u201d Fisher said.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/world\/us-world\/article\/pay-up-to-build-my-border-wall-donald-trump-tells-britain-fkrwgls5j\"><b>Pay up to build my border wall, Donald Trump tells Britain<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He appeared on TV to make the pitch a number of times, and was open about his intended audience. \u201cHopefully the president will see this,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Trump was reported to have personally lobbied for his firm\u2019s bid. Later that year Fisher Sand and Gravel was awarded a $400 million contract to build 31 miles of wall in Arizona.<\/p>\n<p>He went on to hire Tom Homan, Trump\u2019s border tsar, who lobbied for Fisher Industries between the two Trump administrations. His company has won more than $6.5 billion worth of federal contracts from ICE and CBP since the start of the second administration, more than any other company, according to recent analysis by the Financial Times.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"16156390-5d8c-46bc-8433-23d78595b77b\">George Zoley<\/h2>\n<div id=\"6.18\"><picture><source  type=\"image\/webp\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Man in a suit and glasses in front of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement seals.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/imageserver\/image\/%2Fc12505d1-fcfb-4528-8ec0-462495f68336.jpg?crop=1600%2C200%2C0%2C0\"><\/picture><\/div>\n<p>Zoley, 76, a staunch Trump supporter, arrived on Ellis Island from northern Greece at the age of three, eventually settling in Ohio. Today he is the founder and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/business\/markets\/article\/big-short-investor-michael-burry-betting-on-prisons-kx5gngmkc\">chairman of one of the largest prison providers<\/a> in the US.<\/p>\n<p>The Geo Group has amassed $800 million in contracts from ICE since January last year alone, tasked with helping the administration reach more than 100,000 detention beds by, among other measures, converting vast warehouses into short-term holding facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Along with Brian Evans, the Geo Group chief executive, Zoley has made personal donations to Trump. The pair both gave the maximum $11,600 permitted to Trump\u2019s Save America joint fundraising committee before the 2024 election, while the subsidiary Geo Acquisition II Inc gave $1 million to a pro-Trump super PAC.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after the election, Zoley told a corporate earnings call that the Trump administration would bring a \u201cpotential sea change\u201d to interior and border immigration enforcement, according to ABC News. \u201cWe believe that the private sector will play a critical role in assisting the government in carrying out its objectives,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Pam Bondi, the attorney-general, lobbied for the Geo Group from 2019 to 2024.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"47247523-5c6f-4742-844f-63d098eb5c41\">Allen Weh<\/h2>\n<div id=\"6.26\"><picture><source  type=\"image\/webp\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Man in suit with \"Immigration and Customs\" and \"U.S. Customs and Border Enforcement\" seals on either side.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/imageserver\/image\/%2F550d7eec-2bcf-48a5-a6f1-3fc0e6df70f8.jpg?crop=1600%2C200%2C0%2C0\"><\/picture><\/div>\n<p>Weh, 83, spent decades serving as a marine \u2014 including two combat tours of Vietnam \u2014 before he founded CSI Aviation in 1979.<\/p>\n<p>His company is the major charter for ICE\u2019s deportation flights, which in turn provide a vital revenue stream ($1.2 billion since January last year). CSI has also secured private contracts under previous presidents, including Biden.<\/p>\n<p>Weh, who ran as a Republican senate candidate in 2014 and is the former chairman of the New Mexico Republicans, has deep ties to the party. Weh, his daughter and his wife have collectively given about $840,000 to Trump-aligned political action committees, according to analysis by the Project on Government Oversight.<\/p>\n<p id=\"last-paragraph\">After the 2020 election it was alleged that Weh\u2019s daughter, Deborah Maestas, was one of the five \u201cfake electors\u201d in New Mexico who signed certificates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/world\/us-world\/article\/arizona-grand-jury-indicts-18-over-alleged-trump-fake-elector-scheme-6kzfd7k32\">claiming Trump had won the state<\/a>.
