These include claims that Chavez-DeRemer had an affair with a member of her security detail, kept a \u201cstash\u201d of alcohol in her office and used government resources for personal travel, while her aides allegedly sought to channel grants towards politically connected figures, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/03\/02\/us\/politics\/labor-secretary-chavez-deremer-investigation.html\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">the New York Times reported in March.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The now former labor secretary isn\u2019t the only Trump administration official having a rough April. The Atlantic on Friday published a story about Trump\u2019s FBI director, Kash Patel, that included <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/2026\/04\/kash-patel-fbi-director-drinking-absences\/686839\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">allegations of \u201cexcessive drinking\u201d<\/a> as well as \u201cconspicuous inebriation and unexplained absences\u201d as FBI director.<\/p>\n<p>Patel has denied the allegations and threatened to sue the magazine. On Monday he filed a defamation lawsuit in US district court seeking $250m in damages.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have capitalized on the news, saying the recent turnover in Trump\u2019s cabinet is proof that his \u201cadministration is imploding\u201d.
