The suspected gunman who stormed a security checkout at the White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner, forcing President Donald Trump to evacuate, has been identified as Cole Tomas Allen<\/a>, three sources familiar with the matter told CNN. <\/p>\n

The 31-year-old man from California<\/a> studied engineering and is a graduate of the California Institute of Technology, also known as Caltech, according to materials shared with CNN. <\/p>\n

The suspect is believed to have been a guest at the Washington Hilton where the event took place<\/a>, and the police have \u201csecured a room\u201d to determine what is inside, according to Interim Chief at the Metropolitan Police Department Jeffery Carroll. <\/p>\n

Carroll also said the suspect was armed with a shotgun, a handgun and multiple knives<\/a> and \u201cexchanged fire<\/a>\u201d with law enforcement officers when he was intercepted and taken into custody. <\/p>\n

The suspect, believed to have been a guest at the hotel, charged a security checkpoint outside the dinner and is believed to have fired a shot before he was taken into custody, police said. <\/p>\n

McCabe added that under no circumstances should the dinner have continued, as some initially suggested. <\/p>\n

The man suspected of opening fire at the White House Correspondents\u2019 Association Dinner on Saturday night worked as a teacher and video game developer from Southern California<\/a>, according to public records. <\/p>\n

Cole Tomas Allen, 31, who lives in the Los Angeles suburb of Torrance, has been identified by law enforcement as the armed man subdued near the dinner where President Trump and other officials had gathered, two sources familiar with the matter told CNN. <\/p>\n

A LinkedIn profile matching his name and photo described him as a part-time teacher at C2 Education, a test prep and tutoring company. C2 named Allen the company\u2019s \u201cteacher of the month\u201d in December 2024, according to social media posts from the company. No one answered a phone number for C2 late Saturday evening. <\/p>\n

According to his LinkedIn profile, Allen graduated from the California Institute of Technology in 2017 with a bachelor\u2019s degree in mechanical engineering, and received a master\u2019s degree in computer science from California State University-Dominguez Hills last year. <\/p>\n

Allen donated $25 to Kamala Harris\u2019 presidential campaign in October 2024, according to Federal Election Commission records. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s just after midnight in Washington DC, only hours since President Donald Trump was rushed off the stage after a shooting incident at the White House Correspondent\u2019s dinner. <\/p>\n

Trump and his Cabinet members who attended were all safe. He spoke afterward at a hastily organized news conference at a White House, while the city\u2019s mayor along with law enforcement officials also addressed the media to discuss the details of what happened. <\/p>\n

One Secret Service agent was shot and is hospitalized. No one else was injured, according to authorites. <\/p>\n

There was a clear and expected security presence outside the Washington Hilton, ahead of the dinner. Some protestors were outside, as well. I had to hop out of my cab earlier than my exact destination to walk toward the red carpet entrance on Florida Avenue and T Street. <\/p>\n

Passing under security tape, I walked down Florida and ran into a group of colleagues who were also heading up toward the back entrance. All in our black-tie attire, we crossed under security tape toward a group of individuals who were checking for tickets and were ushered up the hill toward the line where we waited outside to get to the red carpet. There were two parallel lines: One for those who wanted their photos taken and one for those who wanted to go through faster without a walk down the red carpet. <\/p>\n

Once inside, you walked toward an area on the red carpet where your photograph was captured, then made your way in behind the blue WHCD banner. Shortly before guests reached the magnetometers, tickets were asked to be flashed but at no point ahead of the dinner did anyone ask for my ID or press badge. I also remember passing by the hotel guest elevators. As many have noted, there were magnetometers closer toward the entrance of the ballroom, where people checked inside my purse and the hundreds of guests walked through a metal detector. <\/p>\n

Once cleared, there is an area where people gather and catch up with one another. Guests have to walk down a couple flights of stairs and then enter the ballroom. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

The suspected gunman in the shooting at the White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner is believed to have been a guest at the Washington Hilton, where the event took place on Saturday night. <\/p>\n

Carroll reiterated that police believe the suspect acted alone. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Dan Scavino, Trump\u2019s deputy chief of staff, said Saturday\u2019s attack brings back \u201ca lot of terrible memories\u201d of the attempted assassination against the president during a 2024 campaign rally in Pennsylvania. <\/p>\n

World leaders condemned violence and voiced relief that the US president and guests at the White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner are safe after gunfire rang out at the venue. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe condemn the attempt of aggression against President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania,\u201d Venezuela\u2019s acting president Delcy Rodr\u00edguez said on X. <\/p>\n

Echoing the sentiment, Canada\u2019s Prime Minister Mark Carney said: \u201cPolitical violence has no place in any democracy and my thoughts are with all those who have been shaken by this disturbing event.\u201d <\/p>\n

Japan\u2019s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and India\u2019s Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed relief for Trump in their messages of support on X. <\/p>\n

\u201cViolence has no place in a democracy and must be unequivocally condemned,\u201d Modi said. <\/p>\n

Israeli President Isaac Herzog called the incident \u201ca heinous attack\u201d and said: \u201cWe are thankful that the law enforcement officer shot during the attack is safe and on the path of recovery.\u201d <\/p>\n
