Family visitation at a New Jersey immigration detention center is set to resume after being suspended amid days of protests, arrests and clashes <\/strong><\/a>outside the facility, Gov. Mikie Sherrill announced Sunday.<\/p>\n

Protesters have gathered outside Delaney Hall in Newark for more than a week to support detainees who allege inadequate medical care, poor living conditions and delays in immigration proceedings, which DHS denies. Detainees have reportedly staged hunger strikes and labor strikes.<\/p>\n

Federal officials have accused protesters of threatening law enforcement officers and engaging in violent behavior.<\/p>\n

The atmosphere outside Delaney Hall remained tense<\/strong><\/a> Saturday as demonstrators supporting the detainees were confronted by protesters who showed up to support ICE officers there.<\/p>\n

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, who last year was arrested outside Delaney Hall during an oversight visit, later imposed a nightly curfew around the facility, citing public safety concerns.<\/p>\n

Trump suggests canceling performances at Freedom 250 event after artists back out<\/h2>\n

President Donald Trump on Saturday suggested canceling planned performances for the Great American State Fair<\/strong><\/a> in Washington this summer after several musicians pulled out of the event.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe should have a giant MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN RALLY, for 250, instead of having overpriced singers, who nobody wants to hear,\u201d the president said, adding: \u201cCancel it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump is slated to speak at the fair\u2019s opening ceremony in June as part of the nation\u2019s milestone birthday celebrations. He posted earlier Saturday that he would look into hosting an \u201cAmerica is Back\u201d rally at the \u201csame time, same location.\u201d<\/p>\n

Danielle Alvarez, a spokesperson for the Trump-backed Freedom 250 group behind the event, said Saturday that the president would \u201cpersonally kick off this historic celebration\u201d on June 24.<\/p>\n

Israeli forces captured a strategic site in Lebanon across the Litani River, marking Israel\u2019s deepest incursion into the country in 26 years.<\/p>\n

The capture of Beaufort Ridge, the site of a medieval castle, comes after days of intense fighting<\/strong><\/a> in southern Lebanon, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying Sunday the seizure marks a \u201cdramatic change\u201d in Israeli strategy.<\/p>\n

The river has become a de facto boundary in Lebanon since Israel\u2019s invasion, with large areas to the south under Israeli military control and residents ordered to leave. Israeli forces had already begun striking and destroying bridges over the Litani that connect the south to the rest of the country. Israel\u2019s military says they were being used by Hezbollah to smuggle weapons and move fighters.<\/p>\n
