Donald Trump<\/a> has hailed the H-1B visa program for skilled workers as \u201cgreat\u201d<\/a> claiming to have always been in favor of them. <\/p>\n

Speaking to The New York Post<\/em>, the president-elect sided with two of his top lieutenants, Elon Musk<\/a> and Vivek Ramaswamy<\/a>, after they both defended the need for hiring workers from overseas in tech, engineering, and other sectors. <\/p>\n

Ramaswamy, who will lead the outside commission known as the Department of Government Efficiency alongside Musk, blamed 1990s sitcoms for emphasizing the wrong values in U.S. workers.<\/p>\n

\u201cA culture that celebrates the prom queen over the math olympiad champ, or the jock over the valedictorian, will not produce the best engineers,\u201d he wrote<\/a> in a post on X.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a permanent shortage of excellent engineering talent,\u201d Musk wrote<\/a> on Wednesday on X. \u201cIt is the fundamental limiting factor in Silicon Valley.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cnumber of people who are super talented engineers AND super motivated in the USA is far too low,\u201d he later added<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Their statements triggered pushback from \u201cAmerica First\u201d hardliners, including Steve Bannon<\/a>. They want strict immigration control and a furious war of words erupted on social media.<\/p>\n

President Jos\u00e9 Ra\u00fal Mulino of Panama<\/a> brushed off U.S. President-elect Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s baseless claim that Chinese soldiers are \u201coperating the Panama Canal,<\/a>\u201d calling it \u201cnonsense.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a Christmas Day message on Truth Social<\/a>, Trump sarcastically wished a merry Christmas to \u201cthe wonderful soldiers of China, who are lovingly, but illegally, operating the Panama Canal\u201d and \u201cmaking certain that the United States puts in Billions of Dollars in \u2018repair\u2019 money, but will have absolutely nothing to say about anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

As MAGA looks to end federal programs, more Americans believe health care is responsibilty of government<\/h3>\n

In 2013, during the rollout of the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, that number was down to 42 percent. Back in 2006, it stood at 69 percent.<\/p>\n

\u2018Exhausted\u2019 Americans are tuning out politics<\/h3>\n

While cable news networks CNN<\/a> and MSNBC<\/a> continue to see a massive post-election drop in their television ratings, a new Associated Press poll<\/a> finds that most Americans are worn out since Donald Trump\u2019s<\/a> electoral victory and have tuned out from political news.<\/p>\n

Conducted by the AP and the NORC Center for Public Affairs Research in early December, the survey found that roughly two-thirds of respondents said they \u201chave recently felt the need to limit media consumption about politics and government because of overload.\u201d Some participants explained why they felt fatigued and needed to step away.<\/p>\n

Yellen warns Congress \u2018extraordinary measures\u2019 will be needed to stop US hitting debt limit<\/h3>\n

Treasury<\/a> Secretary Janet Yellen<\/a> said her agency will need to start taking \u201cextraordinary measures,\u201d or special accounting maneuvers intended to prevent the nation from hitting the debt ceiling, as early as January 14, in a letter sent to congressional<\/a> leaders Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n

\u201cTreasury expects to hit the statutory debt ceiling between January 14 and January 23,\u201d Yellen wrote in a letter addressed to House and Senate<\/a> leadership, at which point extraordinary measures would be used to prevent the government from breaching the nation\u2019s debt ceiling \u2014 which has been suspended until Jan. 1, 2025.<\/p>\n

The department has in the past deployed what are known as \u201cextraordinary measures\u201d or accounting maneuvers to keep the government operating. But once those measures run out the government risks defaulting on its debt unless lawmakers and the president agree to lift the limit on the U.S. government\u2019s ability to borrow.<\/p>\n

\u201cI respectfully urge Congress to act to protect the full faith and credit of the United States,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
