President Donald Trump<\/a>‘s approval rating dropped to one the lowest levels seen during his second term in a new poll from CNN\/SSRS.<\/p>\n

In the survey released Nov. 3, the president had a 37% approval rating. It’s the lowest rating of his second term seen in CNN polling and stands just one point higher than the 36% approval rating Trump had at this point in his first presidential term.<\/p>\n

The president’s 63% disapproval rating in the poll is also a noteworthy change to numbers stretching back to January 2025. It’s numerically the highest disapproval of either term throughout CNN polling, standing one point above Trump’s previous all-time high of 62% when he was leaving office in January 2021.<\/p>\n

The pollster’s previous survey July 10-13 found a 42% approval and 58% disapproval rating for the Republican leader, marking a 5-point change for the worse in both ratings.<\/p>\n

The poll was conducted<\/a> Oct. 27-30 and surveyed 1,245 U.S. adults. The margin of error is \u00b1 3.1 percentage points.<\/p>\n

A majority of Americans are broadly dissatisfied with the state of the country, according to the poll, with 68% saying things are going badly and expressing discontent with the economy<\/a>. That’s the highest rate of respondents saying things were going badly in the country since a 71% dissatisfaction rating in January, shortly before Trump was inaugurated.<\/p>\n

Trump blamed on economy<\/h2>\n

More than 7 in 10 respondents rated current economic conditions as either “poor” or “very poor,” with the economy and cost of living identified as the most important issue facing the country by 47% of respondents. The state of American democracy<\/a> followed, with 26% saying it was the most important domestic topic.<\/p>\n

A majority, 61%, also said Trump’s policies have worsened economic conditions in the country. It marks a 10-point drop since March, and is the second consecutive CNN survey illustrating unhappiness with the president’s economic policies. The previous April poll asking the same question measured a 59% disapproval of Trump’s economic policies, preceded by a March poll finding a 51% disapproval.<\/p>\n

The dismal numbers come as the country hurtles toward day 35 of the ongoing government shutdown, which would tie with the longest-ever shutdown<\/a> during Trump’s first term in 2019, and on the eve of an off-year election many are watching as a potential referendum on the Republican party.<\/p>\n

Roughly 8 in 10 poll respondents considered the federal government shutdown a crisis, calling it as such or saying it is a “major problem,” and 61% said they disapprove of Trump\u2019s handling of the closure.<\/p>\n

In a New York Times daily average<\/a> of Trump’s approval rating that aggregates various polling, the president had a 43% approval and 55% disapproval as of Nov. 3, though it had not yet included the new CNN\/SRSS polling.<\/p>\n
