All were women.<\/p>\n<p>Elana Leopold, one of Mamdani\u2019s top campaign advisors, will be the executive director of the transition team.<\/p>\n<p>He also announced four co-chairs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lina Khan, the former chair of the Federal Trade Commission<\/li>\n<li>Maria Torres-Springer, former first deputy mayor<\/li>\n<li>Grace Bonilla, the head of the United Way of New York City\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Melanie Hartzog, former deputy mayor for health and human services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u2014\u00a0Erin Mansfield<\/p>\n<h2>ADL says it will create a \u201cMamdani Monitor\u201d to track policies and appointments of mayor-elect<\/h2>\n<p>The Anti-Defamation League greeted Zohran Mamdani\u2019s election as New York City mayor with pledges to monitor his administration closely to ensure that it does not create a hostile environment for the Jewish community<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ve already gotten so many calls from Jewish New Yorkers who are concerned. And I&#8217;m here to tell you: if you are a Jewish New Yorker, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JGreenblattADL\/status\/1986078537422381261\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\">@ADL has your back<\/a>,\u201d ADL\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JGreenblattADL\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\">chief executive officer Jonathan Greenblatt said in an X post on Nov. 5.\u00a0<\/a>\u201cWe will hold the Mayor-elect and his administration accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mamdani has decried intolerance against people of all faiths, backgrounds and religions, and has sought to find commonality with the Jewish community. He\u2019s met <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/10\/16\/nyregion\/mandani-jews-israel-palestine.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\">with Jewish leaders,\u00a0<\/a>courted Hassidic voters in <a href=\"https:\/\/forward.com\/fast-forward\/777979\/zohran-mamdani-nyc-mayor-hasidic-yiddish\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\">Yiddish<\/a> and attended <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/09\/22\/nyregion\/mamdani-rosh-hashana-jewish-holidays.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\">Rosh Hashanah celebrations.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Greenblatt, who made similar remarks on MSNBC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Morning_Joe\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\">Morning Joe<\/a>, said Mamdani \u201ccampaigned on policies that could create a hostile environment for the Jewish community. He\u2019s literally told us that he is going to pursue these policies. We are doubling down now because we believe him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To that end, Greenblatt said, the ADL was launching\u00a0an \u201cNYC Antisemitism Tipline\u201d to report incidents in the city, \u201cincluding on the streets, in schools, in their workplace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And the group was establishing a \u201cMamdani Monitor\u201d that Greenblatt said would become \u201ca public-facing tracker monitoring policies, appointments and actions by the Mamdani Administration that impact Jewish community safety and security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only path forward is one that recognizes that Jewish safety and rights require a strong, inclusive city and democracy where all are protected \u2013 and that a strong, inclusive New York City and democracy are not possible without real Jewish safety and security,\u201d Amy Spitalnick, CEO of the separate Jewish Council for Public Affairs, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0 &#8211;Josh Meyer<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>MTG says politicians need to deliver<\/h2>\n<p>Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican from Georgia who often calls out her own party, appeared to put the blame at the feet of Republicans for not winning major elections Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPolitics is no different from business,\u201d she wrote on social media. \u201cBusiness 101: If you don\u2019t deliver what you promise, then don\u2019t expect repeat customers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2014\u00a0Erin Mansfield<\/p>\n<h2>Bernie Sanders, AOC celebrate Mamdani\u2019s win<\/h2>\n<p>Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, two self-described democratic socialists who campaigned for Mamdani, praised his election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStarting at 1% in the polls, @ZohranKMamdani pulled off one of the great political upsets in modern American history,\u201d Sanders, who grew up in Brooklyn, wrote on social media. \u201cYes. We CAN create a government that represents working people and not the 1%.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ocasio-Cortez, who represents part of The Bronx and Queens, simply posted an emoji of the Statue of Liberty.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014\u00a0Erin Mansfield<\/p>\n<h2>Trump \u2018honored\u2019 to be called factor in election<\/h2>\n<p>Trump wasn\u2019t on the ballot Nov. 4 but he told Senate Republicans he was \u201chonored\u201d that analysts called him a factor in state and local elections where Democrats won key races in New Jersey, Virginia and New York City, and a ballot initiative in California.<\/p>\n<p>In Virginia, Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger became the state\u2019s first female governor by defeating Republican Winsome Earle-Sears. In New Jersey, Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill beat Republican Jack Ciattarelli for governor.<\/p>\n<p>And in New York City, democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani won the mayor\u2019s race against former Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa.<\/p>\n<p>Trump had urged voters to support Cuomo, and he held telephone rallies with supporters in New Jersey and Virginia to support Republicans in those states. But each of the winners campaigned against Trump\u2019s policies and his influence on their jurisdictions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The shutdown was a big factor \u2013 negative \u2013 for the Republicans,\u201d Trump said at a White House breakfast with Senate Republicans. \u201cAnd they say that I wasn&#8217;t on the ballot was the biggest factor. I don&#8217;t know about that but I was honored that they said that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8211;Bart Jansen<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Congressional Democrats \u2018demand\u2019 shutdown meeting with Trump<\/h2>\n<p>Democratic congressional leaders wrote Trump a letter Nov. 5 demanding a bipartisan meeting to negotiate an end to the government shutdown.<\/p>\n<p>Trump told Senate Republicans at a White House breakfast that the shutdown should end immediately. But most Senate Democrats have blocked approval of a short-term funding bill by arguing for greater spending on Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act that the GOP opposes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must get the government back open soon, and really immediately.,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-New York, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-New York,\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe write to demand a bipartisan meeting of legislative leaders to end the GOP shutdown of the federal government and decisively address the Republican healthcare crisis,\u201d the lawmakers wrote. \u201cDemocrats stand ready to meet with you face to face, anytime and anyplace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8211;Bart Jansen<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>California hands major redistricting win to Democrats<\/h2>\n<p>California voters delivered a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2025\/11\/01\/california-proposition-50-trump-newsom-redistricting\/86627724007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\">rebuke to President Donald Trump<\/a> by passing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2025\/11\/05\/did-prop-50-pass-california-redistricting\/87101470007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\">Proposition 50<\/a>, an amendment backed by Gov. Affordability, Jeffries says<\/h2>\n<p>House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-New York, on Wednesday morning said the message that resonated most with voters in the 2025: \u201cAffordability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During an interview on MSNBC\u2019s \u201cMorning Joe,\u201d Jeffries said Democrats saw a sweep in races like the Virginia and New Jersey governor races, as well as the mayoral race in New York, because of the message of bringing down prices.<\/p>\n<p>Democrat Abigail Spanberger, who won in Virginia, and Democrat Mikie Sherrill, who won in New Jersey, both ran as moderate Democrats. Zohran Mamdani, the winner of the New York City mayoral race, is a democratic socialist.
