WASHINGTON \u2014 President Trump<\/a> was delighted by the news that his longtime adversary, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi<\/a>, is retiring at the end of her term in January 2027.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe retirement of Nancy Pelosi is a great thing for America. She was evil, corrupt, and only focused on bad things for our country,\u201d Trump told Fox News\u2019s Peter Doocy. \u201cShe was rapidly losing control of her party.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very honored she impeached me twice and failed miserably twice. Nancy Pelosi is a highly overrated politician.\u201d<\/p>\n

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi famously ripped up Trump\u2019s State of the Union speech in 2020 as soon as he had delivered it. REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Pelosi, 85, announced Thursday that she won\u2019t vie for a 20th term in the lower chamber and instead will close off her nearly four-decade career in the House, where she became the first female Speaker, a role she held twice.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Golden State Democrat had been one of Trump\u2019s fiercest rivals during his first term in the White House, sicking the chamber\u2019s powerful committees on him and backing two separate and unsuccessful impeachment efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis president is impeached for life regardless of any gamesmanship on the part of Mitch McConnell,\u201d Pelosi gloated during the first impeachment. \u201cThere is nothing the Senate can do to ever erase that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Infamously, Pelosi ripped up Trump\u2019s 2020 State of the Union address while seated behind him at the House Rostum.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s a sick puppy in my opinion, she really is,\u201d Trump told \u201cFox & Friends\u201d weeks later. \u201cShe\u2019s got a lot of problems.\u201d<\/p>\n

During that State of the Union address, she refused to even shake Trump\u2019s hand.\u00a0\u201cHe\u2019s just a vile creature, the worst thing on the face of the earth,\u201d Pelosi told CNN this week, later agreeing with the interviewer\u2019s language that the president is \u201cthe worst thing on the face of the Earth.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite stepping down\u00a0as the top House Democrat after Republicans retook the House in the 2022 midterm elections, Pelosi had remained a massively influential member of her party\u2019s caucus.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She also played a key role in the Democratic mutiny against former President Joe Biden following his disastrous debate against Trump last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u00a0decided a while ago that Donald Trump will never set foot in the White House again, as president of the United States or in any other capacity,\u201d she later told The Guardian about her machinations during the mutiny against Biden, her longtime friend and fellow Catholic Democrat.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trump was far from alone in cheering Pelosi\u2019s retirement.<\/p>\n

National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Chairman Richard Hudson (R-NC) chided that \u201cRadical socialist Zohran Mamdani takes over the Democrat Party and even Nancy Pelosi has had enough.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Democrats quickly hailed Pelosi, with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) calling her \u201cthe greatest Speaker of all time.\u201d<\/p>\n
