Several acts of vandalism against Tesla property have also been committed in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton, west of Toronto, is the heart of Canada\u2019s steel manufacturing industry and a battlefront in the country\u2019s trade war with the United States.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<p>President Trump has imposed tariffs on steel and other Canadian products and Canada has responded by applying levies to $20.5 billion worth of exports from the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Trump has also claimed that Canada has long \u201cripped off\u201d the United States and wants to make it the 51st state.<\/p>\n<p>Canadians have responded with a grass-roots protest, changing how they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/03\/06\/world\/canada\/canada-liquor-boycott-tariffs.htmlhttps:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/03\/06\/world\/canada\/canada-liquor-boycott-tariffs.html\" title>shop<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/02\/27\/travel\/canada-tariffs-us-tourism.html\" title>travel<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/02\/28\/world\/canada\/canada-us-trump-tariffs-reactions.htmlhttps:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/02\/28\/world\/canada\/canada-us-trump-tariffs-reactions.html\" title>think<\/a> about their relationship with the United States, the country\u2019s closest ally and trading partner.
