I directed this 2d animated short film that was made with 10 volunteer artists to benefit Habitat for Humanity. The entire piece, from initial concept to final output was made in less than 3 weeks. All work was by donation.

Although this was produced as a gift for Habitat for Humanity Canada, I had complete creative and directorial control over the development, preproduction, production, and post.

The piece premiered theatrically at a benefit event for Habitat for Humanity on October 4th. On October 6th, UN World Habitat Day, the film released on-line, promoted by Habitat for Humanity Canada and Habitat for Humanity International. The film will be rereleased under the Habitat for Humanity International umbrella to all US affiliates and across 68 countries worldwide in January 2015.

Abraham Ferraro: “The Art Course 101 is part obstacle course, part performance Art, and part adrenaline induced smashing! The piece is based on my Artistic development over the years and incorporates elements from my other performance pieces. The 1st obstacle in the Art Course starts with myself smashing out of a 4’ cube. To complete the course a series of walls must be broken through, gallery walls must be climbed, hoops must be jumped through, ladders descended, hurdles, punches to the face must be taken, and it ends at a giant oversized button…all in the pursuit of realizing ART.”

In mid december 2009, four guys set out on a motorcycle adventure around east/central Africa.

During the trip we had little intention of creating a movie out of our experience, we simply carried a small (1st generation) Flip camera with us and documented moments that we thought we would like to look back on. When it was all said and done, we had probably 20 hours of small clips from the trip- most of them random, shaky and unusable… but there was some gold in there! We decided that this was an adventure worthy of sharing with the rest of the world, so we took it upon ourselves to sort through the amateur clips and arrange them (on iMovie ’07) into a sensical and chronological documentary of this life changing experience.

It took one year to finish… and on the eve of our one year trip anniversary, we are finally presenting it to the world. It may not be the most polished piece, but it does have heart…

This little elegy by Hokushi is based on a haiku about autumn. The atmosphere is deeply evocative. Fall is always an evocative and sentimental period in Japanese culture. The music was composed in a few weeks, while my father, to whom it is dedicated, was reaching the end of his life.

After a short harsh beginning (a multiphonic), the work evolves from eolic sounds till a peaceful pedal at the end (whistle tones), through a brief and compressed development.

Fall has come.
But not only
the wind.
