Please Touch the Art
http://www.cantorfineart.com/story/please-touch-the-art/One day a blind man discovered a screw painting by Andrew Myers with his hands. The blind man found as much enjoyment out of the tactile elements of the work as any sighted person ever has by just looking at them. Andrew considers this moment as one of the most inspiring of his career. Which led us to a question: Why is touching artwork so taboo?
Prior to the mid-1800s, tactile interaction was commonplace for visitors experiencing collections of art, but as museums of art evolved, rules forbidding touch became the norm. In some cases, these were to protect artwork that truly was not meant to be touched, but in large part these norms had nothing do with preservation and everything to do with nineteenth century politics of gender, race and class control. In light of all this, we decided to create a documentary that elevates the level of tactile arts, and gives back to the visually impaired community. It was at that point that we met George Wurtzel.
George is a blind artisan and teacher working at Enchanted Hills Camp in Napa Ca. This is a 300 acre camp nestled in the red wood forest above Napa Valley. Enchanted Hills is a summer camp for the visually impaired. Here George teaches blind folks, through example, how to use all the equipment necessary to become blind artisans.
Currently, George is converting an old grape crushing barn into a Tactile Art Center. The top floor of the building is his 1900 sq. ft. wood working shop. The bottom floor will be his Tactile Art gallery space where blind people can feel and sell their artwork.
We fell in love with George and his mission and wanted to support his new tactile art gallery. So we worked with Andrew Myers to surprise George with a tactile portrait of himself. The first portrait he will be able to feel and recognize.

The Academy of Music for the Blind (AMB) were kind enough to create a song for our soundtrack. AMB specifically addresses the educational, social, and physical needs of talented blind music students so that they can fully develop their unique talents and be prepared for integration into the workplace or other educational settings.

How to crochet beads into work
In this DROPS video we show how to crochet beads into your work. Before starting your work put as many beads as you are planning to use on the yarn with the help of a sewing needle. Push away the beads and cast on as regular. Crochet until you want to start putting the beads in the work.
The video first show how you add beads when working dc (UK tr) on RS, then working on WS, then finally how to add beads when working sc (UK dc). When working dc (UK tr) you pick up the thread behind the bead, work the dc in following stitch as normally, make sure to move the bead to front or to back before last pull through.
When working sc (UK dc) you pick up the thread behind the bead, pull trough, skip the following stitch, and work next stitch as normally.
On next row of dc/sc make sure to work the st on top of the bead to keep number of sts constant on row. Wash your garment inside out and also to use a laundry bag to be extra careful with the beads. This video has NO SOUND – you must read the pattern to be able to follow this video properly. How to put stitches on a thread one by one
In this DROPS video we show how you can put stitches on a loose thread one by one.Sometimes you want some sts to rest while working the others. If you don’t have a stitch holder you might as well use some scrap yarn. The video is showing how we put 1 st at the time on a thread at the end of each row from RS.
When these sts are later knitted again, make sure to knit them in the right loop so that they are not twisted. This video has NO SOUND – you must read the pattern to be able to follow this video properly. Watch particles swirl in the world’s atmosphere
“Different kinds of particles are a different color,” explains climate scientist, Gavin Schmidt. “The easiest to see are the reddy-orange particles; those are dust and you can see them streaming them off the Sahara,” Also worth noting: white particles (pollution from burning coal and volcanoes); red dots (fires over a particular period); and blue color (seasalt being whipped up into air by the wind). Why should we care about any of this? “All of these particles in the air also affect the climate,” Schmidt says. Bringing together these disparate data in order to see how they all work together allows scientists to consider different future scenarios — and then plan for them. -

Malta
This video takes us on a journey to discover an island of contrasts and surprises: Malta.
From lounging on St.Peter’s pool beach to discovering the colourful village of Marsaxlokk, mingling with the fishermen and relaxing on the traditional Luzzu boats marked by “Eye of Osiris”, there is a whole island of stunning views to wake up to.
Add to that the famed old capital of Mdina, the imposing Saint John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta, and magnificent cliffs in Gozo and it’s easy to understand why most of the people start planning their return trip to Malta before they’ve even left the island the first time.Watch my other works:
