How to knit single loop knitting

In this DROPS video we show how you can knit single loop knitting.

Use this fun technique to make a loop scarf, loop cuffs, loop collar or why not a loopy bag?

Single loops knitted back and forth on needles:
The loops are made on the WS rows of the piece and ends up on the RS.
1st row (RS): Knit all sts
2nd row (WS): K1, * make a loop as follows: Twist the yarn over and around the left index finger as shown in video. Knit the next st by pulling both 2 threads on the left index finger through the st and leave the stitch on the left needle.
K 1 st in the back of the same st (= 1 twisted st). There are now 2 loop sts + 1 twisted st on the right needle. Lift the 2 back sts over the first st = 1 loop st *, repeat from *-* and end with a K edge st. Repeat the 2 rows.

In this DROPS video we show how you make a tubular cast on.

Makes flexible and elastic edges perfect for the edge on a ribbed top down sock, ribbed cuff edges etc.
The white thread we use are waste yarn that we pull out later. After casting on, the sts with the white thread around are P sts. Knit the K sts, and lift the P sts with yarn in front of work. After 4 rows (more if thinner yarn) you pull out the waste yarn and continue in rib, now working both K and P sts.

  • How to knit edge stitches in garter stitch

How to knit edge stitches in garter stitch

In this DROPS video we show how you can knit edge stitches in garter stitch.

When knitting a piece you have 1 stitch in each side of your work that is an edge stitch. The edge stitch are usually not included in the pattern, and there are different ways to knit the edge stitches. This depends on what kind of edge it is, if it will be sewn later like a side seam, if it will be open like on a scarf or a front edge of a jacket.

Edge sts in garter st is good when you want a nice firm edge on a piece that you later will sew inside or pick up sts from. Knit the edge sts on every row, and you will have your edge sts in garter st.

  • How to knit short rows with wrap on wrong side (WS)

How to knit short rows with wrap on wrong side (WS)

In this DROPS video we show how you can knit short rows with a wrap on the wrong side (WS).

When knitting short rows you can shape the garment by making soft curves or give a better fit by creating bust darts. Short rows are partially knitted rows before turning. By turning with a wrap you avoid a hole at the turning point.

Short row from WS: Work number of sts told in pattern, place yarn in back of work, slip following st purl-wise, place yarn in front of work, slip st back on left needle, turn and work the row back. When working next row and getting to the st with wrap; work wrap and stitch together as one stitch and then finish row.

How to draw a (bit of a) Comic Book

A sample from a video made for the BookTrust charity – graphic novelist, Neill Cameron, talks young people how to draw a comic book and offers some top tips for budding comic book artists.

This combines a bit of time lapse, a lot of After Effects and some regular shooting; it was a lot of fun to put together.

Thanks to the BookTrust for letting me put this sample up, Phoenix Comics for their help and Neill Cameron for his fantastic art.

Let me present to you how would a world would look like, where Amazon eBooks have support and refunds exactly like WordPress plugins have.

Hey, Stephen King. I bought your eBook from Amazon. While you described it well, I’m afraid I didn’t like the third chapter on Scary Clowns. I wanted a Scary Doll to show up. Not a Scary Clown. Please refund me my money as this isn’t what I expected when I bought the book – eBook

While it was described well, when I’m using it with my theme which shows pictures of clowns, it doesn’t look as good as when you used it on pictures of dolls. It must be a bug. Hey, I bought this book but I cannot read. Please can you spend 30 hours reading it to me please Mr King. I don’t want to have it read to me all at once, but one chapter at a time please over the next 6 to 12 months? Will I pay you? But I bought the book, surely this means you’ll read it to me? – eBook
