    How to knit herringbone stitch

In this DROPS video we show how to knit the herringbone stitch.

This pretty herringbone texture is not as complicated as it may look. The classic texture is perfect for patterns like scarfs, neck warmers, bags and interior design. The fabric gets dense and you work on a larger needle than recommended for the yarn size.

In this video we knit with DROPS Merino Extra Fine, a DK weight in yarn group B, and we are using a size 13 (9 mm ) needle.

  • How to knit edge stitches in slip st (chain edge)

How to knit edge stitches in slip st (chain edge)

In this DROPS video we show how you can knit edge stitches in slip stitch (aka chain edge).

When knitting a piece you have 1 stitch in each side of your work that is an edge stitch. The edge stitch are usually not included in the pattern, and there are different ways to knit the edge stitches. This depends on what kind of edge it is, if it will be sewn later like a side seam, if it will be open like on a scarf or a front edge of a jacket.

Slip st edge / chain edge is great when you want a nice and decorative edge, like on a scarf or a front edge on a jacket. To get this nice looking twisted slip st along the edge, on every row you slip the 1st stitch as if you would knit it, and you purl the last st on every row.

  • How to knit Fair Isle (2 color knitting) continental

How to knit Fair Isle (2 color knitting) continental

In this DROPS video we show how you can knit Fair Isle (2 colour knitting) using the continental method.

In this video we are following a chart back and forth on needles, knitting with two colors. The color that not is knitted is following behind the work when knitting RS rows. Make sure it’s not too tight or too loose. If more than 3 sts in a row of one of the colors, then twist the yarns for every 3 sts, by picking up the working yarn alternately above and under the yarn following on the back. When working WS rows have the yarn following in front of work, again make sure you have the right tension on the thread. Note – if a color not is used all the way at the end of the row, you can drop it, but if it will be used at the beginning of the next row, then keep carry it a long by twisting around the working yarn. Don’t worry if it’s a bit uneven, it will even out a lot when blocking.

This is compilation of hyperlapse videos that I shot over the course of the past 2 years. I spent a lot of time scouting for locations, waiting for the perfect conditions, and catching the beauty of the city. Lighting is important. Sunrises, sunsets; transitions from dawn to day, and from dusk to dark. I used a lot of self-developed tricks and techniques in both the shooting and editing processes – it took a lot of time and passion to make this video.

  • 25m2 SYRIA

    25m2 SYRIA

For two weeks the installation was an initiative to promote Norway’s annual fundraising event “TV-aksjonen”. This year all donations went to the Red Cross, and people living in war and conflict.
IKEA partnered with the Red Cross to promote the cause.

25 m2 of Syria is an apartment at IKEA Slependen (flagship store in Norway).
But it is not one of the “picture perfect” homes that are usually on display.
The apartment is built as a replica of the real home of Rana and her family of 9 in Damascus, Syria.

It was important to get the public involved, and to really understand where the help was going. So the decision to build
a replica of a Syrian home at IKEA was made. IKEA’s vision is ‘to create a better everyday life for the may people’.
So this partnership was both natural, giving and especially relevant for the cause.

The iconic IKEA-posters and price tags told the story of how people live. Lacking food, medicines and access to clean water.
Caught in the crossfire of Syria’s civil war. But most importantly: On every little tag we let the public know just how they could help.

  • EuroLapse

    EuroLapse

The images used in this time lapse were taken in 2011 over the course of three summer months in Europe. My wife’s mother lives in Lithuania, just outside of the capital city Vilnius, so we decided to make it our homebase from the end of May through August while we traveled to various countries. Some of the places we had been to were new to us, others we had visited before. But all in all, it was an amazing summer and definitely an unforgettable part of our lives.

We split our summer up into four trips. Between each of these trips, we’d fly back to Vilnius and relax for a week or so before packing up and heading off again. Our first trip took us to London. We spent three nights there before catching a quick flight over to Amsterdam. We spent another three nights (which became our default) in Amsterdam and then took a train down to Paris. We originally planned on three nights in Paris, but after day two, we realized how much more we wanted to do and that we didn’t have enough time. So we extended our stay and ended up being there for six nights. I can’t recall why, but for some reason, we had to cut the trip short and head back to Vilnius after Paris.

Next on our list was Scandinavia (or at least part of it). Neither of us had been there before, so we were super pumped. We started with three nights in Stockholm, followed by three nights in Copenhagen, another three in Helsinki, and capped it off with a final three nights in Riga. We really wanted to go to Norway, but felt that it would require an entirely separate trip of its own, just to explore the fjords and all of the beautiful natural scenery. Stockholm was an amazing city and we both agreed that we could easily settle down there. Riga also blew us away and I feel like it’s one of the most underrated cities in all of Europe.

After another week or two back in Vilnius, we headed to the island of Crete for a week at an all-inclusive resort. We took a day trip to Santorini, which consisted of the most hellish eight-hour round trip boat ride ever, but that’s another story. Definitely want to get back to Santorini, but we’d have to go for at least a few nights to make it worth it. Such a beautiful island.

Back to Vilnius again for another week or so, and then we headed out to Italy. Our summer in Europe was ending soon, so we only had enough time to visit Cinque Terre for three nights, with one night in Milan on each end of that trip.

The summer of 2011 was surreal. We visited so many places, saw so much, ate so much, and it all happened so quickly. Thank you to my amazing wife for being my little assistant and for having the patience to stand around waiting for all of these time lapses to finish!

    Venezia

Directed by Oliver Astrologo & Nils Astrologo – fb.com/oliver.astrologo

Much has been made about the wonders of Venice, but few ever venture deep enough across its less touristy, yet still historical hidden places. Beyond hundreds of canals and a diverse architectural style, a secret facet of Venetian life lives on, in which the journey of hand crafting gondola wooden oars and loomed fabrics remains rooted in ancient folk traditions.
This short film uncovers the secrets that have been handed down from father to son and projects you to the Venice that existed 500 years ago, immersing you in the extraordinary craftsmen’s veiled workshops that belong to a long lost era.

This project has been produced in partnership with René Caovilla, the master Venetian shoemaker who has overwhelmed the world with his creations.
