  • Hire PHP Developer or Outsource?

    Hire PHP Developer or Outsource?

Outsourcing vs in-house in development is a debate that has been going on ever since the market for software was conceived. The truth is that both approaches have their benefits and choosing the right one is a decision that depends on many factors. Which option is the best? Well this is a quite a loaded question and one that everyone encounters at some point during the planning phase of a website. With each option, in-house or outsourcing, there are advantages and disadvantages that need to be carefully measured to see which route suits your business.

  • Webuquerque: Using PHP

    Webuquerque: Using PHP

PHP is a free scripting language ideal for server-side web development. Widely used, PHP provides developers a full suite of tools for building dynamic web sites.

In this presentation, local web developers Peter Brown and Mark Casias covered a wide-range of topics, from what PHP is, what is isn’t, how to use it to help you, and how to implement it to make it work best for you.

Specific topics, such as a brief history of PHP, basic syntax (“hello world!” anyone?), usage of variables, HTTP Request methods, and how to use classes to make your code more powerful and concise will be covered. They’ll also discuss more advanced concepts, such as Database Connections, Class Includes and Platforms

  • KPF: An Approach to Digital Design Research, Development & Applications – 9.11.12

KPF: An Approach to Digital Design Research, Development & Applications – 9.11.12

Kohn Pedersen Fox’s design philosophy is firmly rooted in the belief that success is the result of collaboration and ongoing dialogue. Within KPF, the implementation of this approach emphasizes an open exchange of ideas both within the firm and, more importantly, between the full range of people and disciplines that contribute to the development of a project.

This lecture introduces various case studies of KPF projects, with a particular focus on the use of parametric, data-driven design processes formulated through utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM), computational analysis, and studies applied from design conception through execution. The projects maximize the full breadth of knowledge and experience of KPF’s international staff and offices, where BIM-centric designs are collaboratively and simultaneously developed, in real-time, as a single team approach.

KPF’s BIM models not only establish a database of a given design’s information but perform and contribute to a lively and responsive design process. Environmental analysis and data, combined with social and cultural contexts, strive to improve the efficiency and performance goals sought in the design. This strategy is reinforced by incorporating technologies which help to maximize occupant comfort while lowering long-term operating and maintenance costs, reduce non-renewable energy consumption, and minimize construction waste and environmental impact. Seamless workflows have been developed to translate design geometries into multiple software platforms, exchanged seamlessly via BIM from conception to design development, construction, fabrication and operation.

In this presentation, a KPF team that has developed various aspects of the firm’s research and digital design initiatives shall present the application and utilization of their efforts throughout the body of the firm’s work.
