– The Great Indian Desert- Thar. Covers more than 2 lakh km² in terms of area. India has about 85% of the Thar Desert while the rest is in Pakistan.
– It is the world’s 17th-largest desert. Also called the world’s wealthiest desert because the of production of wool & minerals.
– The main form of irrigation in the desert is the Indira Gandhi Canal. The canal has a total length of 650km.
– Thar has 6% of the flora of India. Most of the plants in Thar desert have different medicinal properties. Therefore, they are used by tribes for curing their various illnesses.
