A new publicly owned energy company will do “everything in its power” to tackle modern slavery in its supply chains, a minister has told Parliament.
The Great British Energy Bill is set to establish a state-owned limited firm, backed by £8.3 billion of public cash, that will be tasked with investing in and developing clean energy projects.
The legislation is now poised to become law after the Government agreed, following pressure from MPs and peers, to introduce measures to ensure slavery and human trafficking does not take place in the company’s business or supply chains.
