The process starts with carefully opening the belly of a female salmon to collect the eggs. Next, the eggs are fertilized with sperm, also called milt, from a male salmon. The fertilized eggs are then placed in incubation tanks with controlled water temperature and oxygen levels to mimic natural conditions. While some salmon are raised for food to meet global demand, others are released into rivers to support wild populations
