Why Has The UK’s Busiest Service Station Installed Commercial Solar Panels?
Cobham Services on the M25 is the UK’s busiest service station and it uses a huge amount of electricity. Nearly ten million visitors pass through every year with restaurants, shops, EV charging, and a hotel all relying on expensive grid power. Spirit Energy has been chosen to install 810 commercial solar panels on the roof to cut energy costs and reduce carbon emissions.
This video follows the full commercial solar installation from start to finish. We cover the solar design, inverter sizing, drone surveying, logistics, roof access, safety planning, and how we lifted 20 tonnes of equipment to a 30 foot curved roof without interrupting the public.
We explain exactly how much money solar panels for business can save. Cobham’s system will reduce bills by around 25 percent and is expected to save nearly eighty thousand pounds in the first year. Over the first twenty years the investment return is more than six hundred percent. The installation will generate around 305,000 kWh per year and cut over 68,000 kg of CO2 every year. It protects the site from rising electricity prices and helps meet ESG goals.
