In the small town of Büren, Germany, architect Sven Hein turns his heavily shaded, 1850s landmark home and busy office into a smart, solar-powered hub with 40 kWp of PV, 100 kWh of storage, and blackout-proof backup using Victron Energy. By combining multiple MPPTs, SolarEdge optimisation and smart control with Loxone, the system powers his family, three EVs, a pool and a 10-person practice while respecting protected trees and historic architecture.

Across the seasons, Sven’s Victron-based setup shifts from full solar autonomy between March and October to dynamic-grid support in winter, using a mobile tariff and battery control to cut running costs.
