Description:
In this video we explain the recent tension between India and the United States over solar panel trade.
India’s solar exports to the US have increased rapidly in the last few years. In 2022, India exported only around $84 million worth of solar equipment to the United States, but by 2024 this number jumped to nearly $800 million. That means India’s solar exports grew almost 10 times in just two years.
However, the United States is not very happy with this situation. According to the US government, Indian solar companies like Waaree Energies, Vikram Solar and others receive significant subsidies from the Indian government, which allows them to sell solar panels at cheaper prices in the American market.
Because of this, many American solar manufacturers claim they are struggling to compete. To protect domestic companies, the United States has imposed a massive 126% tariff on solar cells and modules coming from India.
This tariff is expected to come into effect from July 2026, giving Indian solar companies some time to adjust their strategy.
In this video we break down the full story behind the India-US solar trade dispute, why the tariff was imposed, and what it could mean for the global solar industry and India’s renewable energy sector.
