Do solar panels work in the shade? Billy, GridFree’s Solar expert, explains how partial shading of solar panels and shadows on solar panels effect your power off-grid and he let’s you in on on some hot tips to keep in mind before installing your panels.
Definitions:
MPPT: Maximum Power Point Tracking
MPPT solar charge controllers are programmed with a Maximum Power Point Tracking algorithm that allows the solar charge controller to track/calculate the maximum power output of a solar panel or solar array at any given time with a 99% rate of accuracy.
Half-Cell Solar Panels:
This technology boosts the energy production of solar panels by lowering cell size, allowing more cells to fit on the panel. The panel is then divided in half so that the top runs independently of the bottom, generating more energy even if one part is shaded.
