Indian Railways has launched a groundbreaking project by installing solar panels between railway tracks at Banaras Locomotive Works, Varanasi. This is India’s first removable solar panel system, designed to generate clean electricity without using extra land.
With 28 solar panels across 70 metres, the project can produce 15 kWp of power, and if implemented on a larger scale, it could transform India’s railway tracks into massive solar power plants.
This innovation not only saves money but also puts India on the global map of renewable energy projects. While Switzerland tried a similar idea, India’s execution brings a desi twist to the concept.
