Transparent solar panels were great news in 2014, but are they available now?

Have you ever imagined a future where your windows generate solar energy? 🌞
Transparent solar cells promise to turn any glass surface into a clean energy source. Since the first transparent solar panel was installed by Michigan State University in 2021, the technology has evolved. However, the path remains challenging: the high cost, around $400 per square meter for fully transparent panels, and the low efficiency of just 1%, are barriers to large-scale adoption.

On the other hand, semi-transparent panels, which are more affordable and efficient, are gaining traction, costing about $80 per square meter and reaching up to 12% efficiency. As research advances, it’s possible that in a few years, this technology will become a true sustainable alternative for windows, building facades, and even electronic device screens.

We are still far from the ideal, but the potential is enormous. What’s your bet on the future of this innovation?
