{"id":10500,"date":"2025-07-03T12:39:51","date_gmt":"2025-07-03T12:39:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wpinitiate.com\/youtubomatic-test\/demoa26f6b3a\/2025\/07\/03\/zambias-largest-solar-power-plant-set-for-official-launch\/"},"modified":"2025-07-03T12:39:51","modified_gmt":"2025-07-03T12:39:51","slug":"zambias-largest-solar-power-plant-set-for-official-launch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wpinitiate.com\/youtubomatic-test\/demoa26f6b3a\/2025\/07\/03\/zambias-largest-solar-power-plant-set-for-official-launch\/","title":{"rendered":"Zambia\u2019s Largest Solar Power Plant Set for Official Launch"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"youtubomatic-video-container\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allow=\"autoplay\" width=\"580\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UxU903Dq01c?controls=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>By Ruth Chayinda <\/p>\n<p>The $100 million Chisamba Solar Power Plant is set to be officially commissioned tomorrow by President Hakainde Hichilema.<\/p>\n<p>ZESCO spokesperson Matongo Maumbi confirmed the development, stating that the 100-megawatt facility marks a major milestone in Zambia\u2019s energy diversification efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Maumbi said the solar PV plant is the first and largest of its kind in the country and serves as a benchmark for the implementation of other solar projects.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the project contributes to the target set by President Hichilema to produce 1,000 megawatts of electricity from solar projects by the end of 2025.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with ZNBC in Chisamba, Mr. Maumbi also revealed that Phase 2 of the project will commence soon.<\/p>\n<p>He further stated that ZESCO is working with the private sector to set up solar plants in various parts of the country to meet the 1,000-megawatt target by 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Chisamba Solar Power Plant Manager Chiz Nyirenda said approximately 1,300 workers were employed during the construction phase, with 98 percent drawn from surrounding local communities.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Nyirenda added that the plant was technically commissioned in May and began transmitting power into ZESCO\u2019s transmission network.<\/p>\n<p>He said that with the plant now operational, 100 workers will be employed\u201440 directly and 60 indirectly.<br \/>#solar<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ruth Chayinda The $100 million Chisamba Solar Power Plant is set to be officially commissioned tomorrow by President Hakainde Hichilema.
