Storing that energy for nighttime use has always been a challenge. Now, researchers have developed an innovative solution: engineered wood that can capture solar energy during the day and release it later, even generating electricity after sunset.<\/p>\n<p>Scientists redesigned balsa wood by removing lignin to create a porous structure. They then coated it with light-absorbing phosphorene, protected by tannic acid and iron, and added silver nanoparticles to boost sunlight absorption. A water-repellent layer ensures durability outdoors.<\/p>\n<p>The wood is filled with stearic acid, a phase change material that melts to store heat and solidifies to release it later. This stored heat can be converted into electricity using a thermoelectric generator.<\/p>\n<p>The material achieved an impressive 91.27% efficiency in converting sunlight into heat and can store 175 kJ per kilogram. It also produces up to 0.65 volts of electricity.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond energy, it is fire-resistant, antibacterial, and weatherproof.
