In between science and teaching researchers work with students in an interdisciplinary team consisting of biologists, architects and civil engineers on the transformation of natural shape creation processes as ignition for new design and fabrication techniques in architecture.

The manufacturing process of the diving bell of the water spider (Argyroneta aquatica) was abstracted to a robotically build research pavilion made out of fibre reinforced polymers and ETFE film.

For the realisation of the biomimetic inspired light weight structure consisting von ETFE, carbon and glass fibres methods of form creation, finite element simulations and new materials systems are developed and investigated.
