    ChartFlight – Freight traffic

This video shows a flight through a number of chosen countries of the European Union and visualizes freight traffic statistics. Therefore, it considers three types of transportation – rail transport, inland waterway transport and road transport. The displayed values show the percentage of the total amount of driven kilometres for the years 1997, 2002 and 2007.

This video has been automatically created using the ChartFlight Service and contains statistic data available at http://ec.europa.eu/eurostat

The ChartFlight Service is currently in development and not open to the public.

  • AlkaViva’s Ultrawater Filter

    AlkaViva’s Ultrawater Filter

    The Problem

We know how important it is to drink enough water each day. We also hear about the hidden dangers lurking in tap water and plastic water bottles. Standard treated tap water still contains urban, agricultural and industrial runoff such as pharmaceuticals, heavy metals and cleaning by-products from the actual water treatment.

If we consume water that is not properly cleaned of toxic, chemical pollutants then we are right back to where we started. And that is why you owe it to yourself and family to know what is in your water … to find out how you can take back your tap.

    The Solution

AlkaViva has spent over two years in research and development to dramatically advance the performance of drinking water filtration. To create the cleanest, healthiest and best tasting water possible at an affordable price. The result is the range of AlkaViva UltraWater filtration products.

    Affordable
    Laboratory tested*
    USA made
    Patent pending
    Great tasting

Counter top units, under sink units and pitcher
Products capable of the most advanced contaminant removal while retaining the beneficial alkalizing minerals. Try AlkaViva ™ UltraWater products and enjoy the cleanest, alkaline ionized water possible with most chemical pollutants rendered non-detectable. The media used in all our UltraWater products has been extensively tested to show stunning reductions for 171 contaminants, by a USA, independent Government approved laboratory, certified under the strictest EPA/ANSI protocols. See See Test Results on AlkaViva UltraWater filters at https://www.alkaviva.com/testresults.php

    The Technology

Inside each UltraWater filter is the patent-pending technology that forces contaminated water to flow in a tortuous path through supercharged media, trapping contaminants across the board while leaving the beneficial alkalizing minerals intact. Imagine the cleanest and healthiest water as nature intended – that is the next generation – that is AlkaVivaTM UltraWater. The way water should be!

  • Front end for back end developers – Mads Hoel

Front end for back end developers – Mads Hoel

What do you need to know about if you want (or more likely are forced) to work with front end development these days? In this presentation I will give an introduction and an overview of the modern web developers toolbox.

The world has changed much over the last ten years. Back in 2008 you either used PHP, CSS and JavaScript or you would use Java with JSP or JSF. In the Java world, front-end was considered easy to learn but difficult to get right. It was just something you hacked and got working – like frosting on a cake. Today the world is quite different. Now you use bundlers, test frameworks, linters, transpilers, minification, preprocessors, automation, dependency management. Come and learn why these tools are part of a modern web developer toolbox. Discover that front end has become a rich, professional and complex industry.

Mads Hoel is a senior Java consultant working at Inmeta Consulting in Oslo. He has been working on several projects, customers and with different technology from back end to front end. Software craftsmanship is important to him.

Beautiful Algorithms: Design from Nature and Mathematics

    Video sponsored by www.Aquent.com

Filmed at the Sold out FITC Toronto 2009 design & technology festival
    More info at www.FITC.ca

What is the deeper mathematical basis of our natural world? Throughout nature and technology – and places where they overlap – there are algorithmic systems that generate beauty. They appear in countless and surprising places: music, art, seashells, flowers, chemical reactions, and mathematics itself. They appear accidentally and intentionally in the arts and artifacts, from the beginning of human creativity. This presentation will be a survey of the designs & animations created by these systems, and a discussion of the code used in their creation.
